Has anyone found JFK in the database? I didn't see him & I know he wasn't the first commander of PT109 but he should be there for those of us who go into the editor. Also shouldn't Boyington be in command of VMF214 instead of Britt. Britt was the original commander when it was organized at the start of the war but it was then reorganized in the timeframe of UV by Boyington.
Also I've noticed that there are no C46 units, shouldn't there be at least a couple of units with a few replacements available. Even though they mostly served in CBI theater flying the Hump some where flying in the Pacific. If not in UV, I would hope they would be included in WITP whereas they weren't in PW.

check a later scenario for JFK. i think he was based out of rendova when his PT was lost so it may be later in the conflict. Im not sure what the approximate date was.
Just a thought.

Boyington is in the database but doesn't start as commander of that airgroup. This was discussed before and I dont recall the reasoning behind it but you can probably do a search on the bboard and find it.

PT109 was rammed and cut in two by DD AMAGIRI on the night 1/2 August '43.

Most likely due to negligence on the part of JFK. How else can a PT boat get big by a destroyer?

it was hit at night and without radar.. so it was mostly bad luck. the destroyer just kept churning along at high speed after it hit them.. remember both ships were prolly blacked out as well. so visibility was probibly not very good

In the game, a flotilla of enemy PT boats is patroling the slot. My search planes have even read the numbers on the sides of the boats and reeled them off to me in a report.....including the 109.

True, but if the lookouts weren't sleeping on the job they should have been aware of the DD's approach before it hit, in my opinion.

Actually,

According to the November isue of "World War 2 History" magazine (an excellent read btw), crews were rarely assigned to a specific boat. They were assigned to a flotilla, usually of about 6 - 12 boats. Each day, there was a duty roster that said what crews were active for that day, and to which boat they'd be using. But that the boat to which each crew was assigned, changed as often as the duty roster.

There were several variations of the boats, 1 that was the "generic" on with 4 torps, 2 pairs of 5 cals, and 40mm gun. But there were also "gunboat" versions (better suited for interdicting the Japanese barge traffic in the Solomons), without the torps with 2 extra 20mms, and another astern. And there was a ASW version with the torps removed, and several racks of DCs fitted.

Kennedy was actually assigned to one of the gunboat versions for a while.
