Shadows Problem - 5/23/2013 5:02:20 PM

Status: offline 		I can't generate a galaxy in Shadows. Every time I try to start the game and it generates a galaxy, it comes to a stop and gives me this "Out of Memory" message. I have 8GB RAM. Please tell me what to do!

To rule out other issues, have you tried a clean reinstall yet? If not, please try uninstalling everything, then install DW + ROTS + Legends and then Shadows. Delete your game folder before reinstalling (make sure you save any mods you want saved first).

Status: offline 		Yes I did. I deleted the entire Matrix Games folder in C, and I even deleted the CodeForce stuff in App/Roaming.

Status: offline 		After running the .NET cleanup, it's gone from bad to worse. Now I just get the startup window and when I press "Play" the game doesn't start at all.

I mean NO "Calibrating hyperdrives... Feeding Giant Kaltors..."

Please try updating your audio drivers, which are from 2009.

Sorry to hear the cleanup tool made things worse, but it was likely just uncovering the issue that already existed. This now sounds just like some of the other reports which we are investigating. For several customers it seems that the dependencies are just not working for some reason. We've got three folks here focused full-time on trying to investigate and duplicate and fix this right now.

In the meantime, is there any crash log at all (other than the one from your message above)?

Can you try as one last thing reinstalling first the .NET 4.0 and then the XNA that is in the /redist sub-folder of the installation. Just want to make sure we're dealing with the same issue here.

Status: offline 		After again reinstalling .NET and XNA I get to the title screen again, but when I try to generate a new galaxy I get the same error message as in my first post in this thread. I'm back at square one really.

There are no other error messages than that one.

Were you able to update your audio drivers?

It may be worth trying a different video driver (a newer or older one) as well. I have the same video card and no issues but this could be some kind of video memory glitch.

When you reinstalled .NET and XNA from the installers in the /redist sub-folder, did both installers appear to run normally or just flash and disappear? If the latter, try a reboot and reinstalling XNA one more time.

Status: offline 		I have the same issue with trying to run my Star Wars : Alderaan mod in shadows. I am assuming I need to make changes to the mod to get it working in shadows.

Antiscamp........ I found that if I do not load a mod and just start a new game in Shadows then I can play ok. But if I open a mod, I get the same error you do.

I am assuming it is a change that needs to be made to the mod.........The error occours on the screen after the one where you select your race.....so perhaps it is something to do with the settings for the other empires.

Status: offline 		Just noted that my error is an index out of range error while yours is an out of memory issue...... therefore your issue is different from mine and mine is mod related.

Did you install as administrator?

what I would do in your situation is to uninstall Distant worlds, reboot your computer , reinstall Distant Worlds ,Shakturi,Legends and shadows and make sure each is installed as Administrator.

Edit:

You may also want to try closing down any applications running in the background. Maybe you have something running which is causing a memory leak since you saw this happen with Legends as well.

Status: offline 		Well, I saw it with Legends and mods and only in the opposing Races selection window. The same as you're referring to, with the out of bounds error. I mixed things up.

I didn't install the Legends update. I've only installed Distant Worlds, Return of the Shakturi then Legends and on top of that Shadows. I didn't install any of the updates. I assume Shadows contains them already.

I just reinstalled the game for a second time this evening, and still no luck. I do shut down all other background programs when I go in-game.

I see you have DirectX 11, you did let it install DirectX 9c correct?

No Mods installed, I'm pretty sure things have changed for Mods.

And yes, no mods present at all. It's all vanilla.

Status: offline 		I don't actually know how to correctly use the Windows Log, so I must say that I don't really know what it's telling me. I cannot find any mentions of the game in there though.
