This is a google documents spreadsheet that helps you calculate a good size for a resource convoy of ships between two ports. It is intended to help Japan plan out its initial resource convoys to the Home Islands, but it has many other applications. The main limitations are that you have to be using ships of all the same class for it to be able to calculate anything for you; and that it only knows load/unload rates for resources, supplies and oil.

It is a translation of the ship and port load ability table 6.3.3.2.4, pg 125 in the manual.
It is driven by data on a tab called Port Information and another called ship information. These tables are not complete, so you will ned to add to them to use the tool for your own campaign. To be able to edit the dheet you will need to goto file->save a copy. Then you will have your own copy and gain edit priviledges.

Please let me know if you see any errors in the calculations!

There is also a tool in Tracker that is useful for this . It wasn't all that intuitive to me at first, and I don't use it to plan my convoys except for reference... However: in the Industry data set, there is a CS Convoy Planning tab. Click on it.

Inside you will be able to select two ports, and it will then give you the resource/oil/fuel load per ship and per day for the whole port. For example, if there is a 3k per ship load at the port and a 36k total load for the port per day, I make convoys of 12 ships that carry 3k (or slightly less) each.

Great Scott, Lockasenna!

Here I am, a professed Tracker Man, and I have not yet taken the time to check out that particular tool. So much for my powers of observation...

I will fire up tracker and check it out.

Thank You for bringing it to my attention.

EDIT: I do not use the CS Convoy routine, and thus have been overlooking this useful tool.

Mac
