Turn 56

Overall
The USSR makes a few attacks in the Moscow sector, but nothing we cannot deal with. We eliminate the pocket we formed, and formed a new small one. In the Stalino area the USSR only kept control of the easternmost city, leaving the two others empty for us to take.
20 USSR attacks resulted in 13 helds and 7 retreats, while our 26 attacks gave a result of 9 helds, 7 retreats, 3 routs and 7 surrenders this turn. We need to make more attacks, but to do that I need to force the river lines. We shall see what next turn brings.

Losses
USSR : 196.000 troops, 2.899 guns, 106 AFVs, 136 AC.
Axis : 37.000 troops, 304 guns, 111 AFVs, 86 AC.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
19.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
4.

# of USSR reserve activations
1.

USSR units destroyed
15 Rifle Divisons, 3 Guards Rifle Divisions, 1 Guards Tank Brigade and 3 PVO AA Regiments.

Partisans
4 of these pesky units appeared, none remain.

German Pools
Manpower : 78.666
Vehicles : 135.499
Armaments : 379.621

do like your sometimes rather quirky image selection ... maybe they dropped onto the enemy aircraft?

Hehe Thank you. If there is nothing peculiar to show from the front I try to find something else/odd to show
Yeah maybe, although in Warthunder (tm) I find that I can take on some early USSR AC with my Stukas

Turn 57

Overall
Same as last turn, the USSR attacks in the centre, while I eliminate the pocket formed last turn and create another small one. The USSR launched 19 attacks and score 7 helds and 12 retreats. This cause 3 of my divisions to be cut off, but we take care of the situation, but it is clear that I will have to reinforce AGC somewhat.
We launch 23 attacks and score 4 helds, 16 retreats, 2 routs and 2 surrenders.
A few things worth noting;
-VP to go = 63 (not too bad the situation taken into account)
-We are now seeing Rifle, Tank and Cavalry Corps. That is not good

Losses
USSR : 73.000 troops, 1.225 guns, 58 AFVs, 164 AC.
Axis : 38.000 troops, 378 guns, 98 AFVs, 58 AC.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
4.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
5.

# of USSR reserve activations
1. But this turn the Rumanians also manages one .

USSR units destroyed
3 Rifle Divisons and 1 Guards Rifle Division.

Partisans
3 show up, 3 are hunted down.

Turn 58

Overall
Pretty much exactly as last turn with the exception that we did not manage to make a pocket this turn.
The USSR made 22 attacks scoring 8 helds, 13 retreats and 1 rout(a stack with 3 German Infantry Divisions) -
Our 28 attacks gave us 10 helds (only 2 hasty attacks), 16 retreats, 1 rout and 1 surrender.

Losses
USSR : 102.000 troops, 1.572 guns, 55 AFVs, 125 AC.
Axis : 48.000 troops, 475 guns, 151 AFVs, 148 AC.

4 Rifle Divisons and 1 Rifle Corps.

Turn 59

Overall
This is another of the turns that gives cause for concern. The main reason is twofold. 1: The USSR launched more attacks than us, and 2: our losses are WAY too high. The only good news is that we form a decent pocket this turn, and that no units are cut off, but I am indeed concerned. And although the USSR OOB has dropped the past few months, it is still far too high, so there is definitively concerns at my end.
The USSR launched 20 attacks, scoring 8 helds and 12 retreats. We on the other hand only manage 16 attacks for a result of 5 helds, 7 retreats, 3 routs and 1 shatter.

Losses
USSR : 83.000 troops, 1.032 guns, 87 AFVs, 269 AC.
Axis : 65.000 troops, 848 guns, 162 AFVs, 109 AC.

Turn 60

Overall
I must admit that right now I should probably reread the story about the Tortoise and the Rabbit to keep my spirit up, but we'll just keep going like the Duracell Bunny instead .
The USSR keeps attacking in AGC, and we try to attack in the south. Neither side makes a lot of progress, and we do not manage to form a new pocket this turn.
17 USSR attacks resulted in 8 helds and 9 retreats, while our 24 attacks gave us 7 helds, 8 retreats, 4 routs and 5 surrenders. The lack of routs is a problem as that makes it really hard to puncture Seans lines.

Losses
USSR : 224.000 troops, 3.197 guns, 127 AFVs, 336 AC.
Axis : 59.000 troops, 791 guns, 135 AFVs, 102 AC.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
14.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
0.

# of USSR reserve activations
4.

USSR units destroyed
1 Fortified Region, 1 Rifle Brigade, 12 Rifle Divisions.

Partisans
We took out all 3.

Welcome Ah, no worries, atleast that explains why I could not get the picture to show
And if you want to learn the game, there are FAR better players to learn from than me. I suggest looking at AARs by Pelton and Michael T.

Thanks! I would follow your recommendations.i want to finish my thread before reading other aars, as i am afraid that after reading, i might lose interest to finish my thread as there might be aars far better than mine.

Thank you, but I still claim that there are a lot of players that it is better to learn from. I think the only thing I can accept that I did well in the last game was to decide on a Schweerpunkt and a strategic goal, and then pull it through.

Turn 61

Overall
This turn made me realize that I no longer have any choice, I need to send divisions from AGS to AGC to reinforce the Moscow sector. That is far from ideal, but it has to be done to avoid a complete shattering of my front. In the south we once more manage to trap some USSR units this turn, and I will not be too surprised if the USSR falls back here next turn.
The USSR launched 9 attacks for 6 helds and 3 retreats, while our 29 attacks only gained 11 helds, 15 retreats and 3 routs. How a USSR brigade that is cut off, and has already been forced to retreat twice holds up against an attack from a division with 5 times the CV is still beyond me...

Losses
USSR : 74.000 troops, 881 guns, 73 AFVs, 377 AC.
Axis : 52.000 troops, 630 guns, 179 AFVs, 103 AC.

Turn 62 aka Game, Set, Match

Overall
There are so many sayings I could use for this turn. "It doesn't rain, it pours", "the turn that broke the camel's back", are the two I chose .
Just as happened in reality, the failure of the Rumanians has spelled my doom, and although I have not yet offered my surrender, I will have to do so if I cannot restore the situation next turn.
Although this has been a struggle all the way, just look at the number of attacks and the results for this turn.
USSR : 32 attacks, for a result of 16 helds, 15 retreats and 1 rout.
Axis : 24 attacks, for a result of 11 helds, 9 retreats and 4 routs.
Oh, and do I have to tell you that Sean once more forced my panzers to retreat, and hence reopened the pockets formed last turn?

Losses
USSR : 101.000 troops, 1.389 guns, 172 AFVs, 396 AC.
Axis : 80.000 troops, 1.110 guns, 263 AFVs, 174 AC.
This too, shows the severity of this turn.

I would not consider surrendering as long as you are pocketing troops.

3.7 million OOB for GHC is much higher then normal. The keys are pocketing SHC units and you are this is setting back SHC 2.0 and GHC OOB.

Fight on

The problem is that Sean usually breaks my pockets, and although my OOB is good, his is close on 8M. All of that could be managed somehow, however the problems are;
-he is able to attack more than me
-he is able to bleed me dry with high casualties
-with the Rumanians running, I will need to fall back if I cannot stabilize that front
-with his high OOB, he is able to launch waves of attacks on my positions, reducing my forts
-with no forts I cannot hold a hex unless I have 3 German Divisions in the stack (often that is not enough)

So, we shall see how the next turn works out. But unless I can stabilize the situation, I am done for. Sure, I can keep him at bay for MAYBE a year if I go on the defence, but I doubt I can do more than that. Unless I am able to keep pushing through his forts so that I can form pockets, I am dead.

Turn 63 aka beating a guy while he is down

Overall
First Sean strikes out in the South as expected, but only expand the bridgehead one hex, then he follows up with a proper attack in the Moscow sector. Then mud strikes, denying me any proper chance of beating the enemy back.
Not in good shape right now. Next few turns are crucial I think.
The USSR launched 15 attacks and scored 7 helds and 8 retreats, while our 9 attacks gave 4 helds and 5 retreats.

Losses
USSR : 61.000 troops, 652 guns, 65 AFVs, 181 AC.

Turn 64

Overall
The mud last turn might have saved us, as Sean only made small advances. Nevertheless, I have had to relocate a total of 3 Pz.Divs from my Pz.Armies to help contain the two threats. This turn we also managed to trap some USSR units again, and I think the pockets will hold.
11 USSR attacks resulted in 5 helds, 5 retreats and 1 rout, while our 23 attacks resulted in 6 helds, 14 retreats and 3 routs.

Losses
USSR : 87.000 troops, 1.152 guns, 84 AFVs, 213 AC.

Assuming you have derailed that period of Soviet pressure, what are your realistic goals now for 1942?

Not understanding the r-word of yours , I'ld say push through the USSR line in the south, and reform a secure line.

Turn 65

Overall
Ok, NOW I am scared. Sean withdraws all his advanced units. What is he up to now? The 3 Pz.Divs are all heading back. Apart from that, we make progress that makes snails laugh as they pass us by, but we do form a new pocket. That however is needed as the USSR reopened one of the pockets formed last turn...
12 USSR attacks resulted in 3 helds and 9 retreats., Our 22 attacks gave 8 helds (I am developing an allergy to reserve activations...), 11 retreats, 2 routs and 1 surrender.
Only other big thing is that another army was placed in static mode this turn, as they are now dug in deep enough.

Losses
USSR : 112.000 troops, 1.475 guns, 258 AFVs, 440 AC.
Axis : 55.000 troops, 695 guns, 154 AFVs, 96 AC.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
3.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
9.

# of USSR reserve activations
7.

USSR units destroyed
1 Rifle Division, 2 Guards Rifle Divisions.

Partisans
We hunted down 11 out of the 12 that showed up.

German Pools
Manpower : 1.044
Vehicles : 161.542
Armaments : 185.143
Hiwi : 1

You can try a massive withdraw all across the front, then counterattack once your opponent suffers supply difficulties.

If it fails, just think of it as your strategy to help shorten the war!
