So, my cash suddenly dropped like a rock. From about 1.1mill to 700K in the space of a few months. Wouldn't be anything wrong with that if I had actually spent it on something, but I didn't. I have pretty much everything on manual control, so I couldn't figure out where it went. Looking at the budget told me it was resource purchases. 415,000 worth of resource purchases in one year.

Anyway, my empire suddenly decided that its need for Dilithium crystals, chromium, lead, gold and steel was very high. In the case of steel, its need was thirteen times that of the rest of the galaxy put together, 1300K vs 93K. This despite me already having 2000K of the galaxy's total 7000K stock. I've no idea what it wanted 3300K steel for. I looked at my ships&bases screen and confirmed that nothing was under construction.

If I caused this, I've no idea how. The only things I've been doing the for the last few years is to invade and capture two planets, one with 2b and another with a few hundred mill, and then create a bunch of troops on those planets. Far as I know, creating troops doesn't even require resources, let alone that much. So yeah, definitely something odd here.

Please upload a save file for us to investigate.

Yah, ftp server was down when I posted. Uploaded as Raap 31.05 CrazyResourcePuchase.dwg.

My resource purchases have since gone down to about 30K a year, though my unmet demands are still ridiculously high.

*edit*

Just set a new record at 700K resource purchase expenses...Compensated slightly by a sudden jump in Mining income at about 270K. So it seems at least some of the resources are 'purchased' from my mining sector. I still don't know what it's all going to though; the only correlation I see is me capturing planets, which seems to be followed by huge spikes.

My steel demand jumped to 8000K after capturing a few more colonies, which higher than the galaxy stock. At this point I feel fairly certain it's the colonies I captured that's causing it. I loaded a save set 40 years earlier, before I'd taken any colonies, and my resource puchases were basically non-existent. My unmet demands were all 0.
