Ok, so what is the general feeling towards tech swapping with AI players? I know it's my game and I can do what I want...but do you guys see it as a cheat? I mean, in real life does one nation say "we will give you stealth technology in exchange for genetic cancer research"?

Great way to advance tech and make cash but...I dunno...feels like a cheat.

Does the AI do it with other AI? I mean, if I don't do it will I lag behind?

Why do you feel it's a cheat? It's real basic interaction, like trading a fish for a couple apples. You can bet that if one nation had a cure for cancer all the other nations around the globe would be willing to swap all sorts of technology for it... or more likely steal it, which you can also do in DW.

I'm not saying it is a cheat...just that it feels that way... Feels to easy. Economy sucks? Trade a tech. Lagging behind in research, have a huge tech swap with a friend. I do it, I'm just curious how everyone else feels I guess

Well you are giving the person you traded with a boost as well, correct? And the AI are probably tech trading with each other as well, so it all seems fair to me.

You getting money in exchange of tech - The other party is getting tech in exchange of money (Probably cheaper than crashing the research anyway)

I really don't see the problem in theory - but if the AI is too willing to bring itself to bankruptcy or making really bad deals consistently then that's obviously a problem.

Eh, the only problem I see with it is that the AI isn't really competent enough to truly judge the value of certain technologies. There are many techs I'd happily trade away for a few thousand, yet they're willing to pay hundreds of thousands if not millions(though they rarely have that much cash). Same with 'disputed bases' being worth ridiculous amounts at times.

I've nothing against the principle of exchanging tech itself though.

I'm not a fan of it, because in order to get the most out of it, it's very micromanagey. I have to keep checking the other empires to see if they have something new that I might want, and the more frequently I check, the more I get out of it. Too much micromanagement for me, so I just never do it.

Maybe if I could flag a tech in the tech tree, and have the game notify me if someone researches it?
