As the title says, playing pre-warp, and there are no ship designs for a colony ship. I assume I need to research something, but I have no idea how to find out what it is. Anyone?

Hi Tylertoo,

You will need to research colonization and also be able to build large enough ships (through construction tech) to build colony ships.

Is there a search function to find specific techs in the tech trees? I found colonization by accident, but cant find construction tech.

We need a pre-Warp colonization module. Something that is only 30 units big in size or so and available from the start up. Plus it should be unable to be put into a ship that has a hyperdrive fitted to it. That way we could realisticly colonize our home system before going inter-stellar.

By the time you develop colonization right now, it makes no sense anymore to put down further colonies within the home system for quite a while, since you are better off to rush for the land grabbing beyond your borders.

I'm playing pre-warp empire for the first time and to me it seems more challenging than regular empire setting.

You can also design colony ships at size 160 (480 for colony ships), if you don't have size 230 available.
Just make sure it has enough speed and fuel to reach its destination.
