I'm afraid of starting an argument, but "case study" refers to something planned in advance before the data is even created let alone collected and is generally used in the social sciences and psychology. This was an analysis, perhaps. As for the "myth" its purpose was to dispel, if it was a myth among the students at the academy it certainly needed to be dispelled. I'm pretty sure the grunts on Guadalcanal didn't find the incoming BC shells mythical and these capital ships served many purposes during the war. The myth existed only among some dilettantes and perhaps not yet educated cadets. (I, by the way, qualify for the label "dilettante", of course. That's why I said some).
