I am playing with Legends and have not long started, really enjoying it so far.
However I am having a problem with my fleet automatically flying off and attacking targets. I have the automation set to suggest targets only and it is properly suggesting targets and not attacking them when I decline as it should.

The first time it happened was during a war after one of my planets was invaded, I had lost the battle and retreated and some time had passed when I spotted my fleet halfway to the planet with an attack posture target on the planet.
I initially tried ordering them to stop then re automating them but they instantly went to attack again, so I ordered them back to my home world and once there they set off again. Eventually I changed their posture to defensive and ordered them as far away as possible and they seemed to stay quiet. I put it down to possibly some remaining order to attack from the invasion (Although I ordered this manually not through a suggestion).

However my fleet has now started to fly off towards a completely different empire whom I have never been as war with once again with an attack posture.

Can anyone help me stop them?

tldr
Empire Police apply only on auto-handling,not on ship behavior.
every ship/fleet have their own behavior, that called "Engagement Stance" you can use manual to read about it.
it will explain better then this post.

I think it was the posture. Changing their posture range to the minimum should make them stay (until something is very close). Apart from that, single ships will attack by engagement stance as said above, but that will not make them leave the system unless chasing their target.

The problem is the posture is being automatically set, even when I change it they are quickly back to attack and heading off towards the enemy without any permission.

set you range to current target, Stance to nearby , posture to attack and empire attack/bombard to nearby targets. (this returns your stance after battle) They will then only attack stuff near them when automated. If you dont want them to attack anything at all unless you command them the fight, then also set the fleet to manual. If you want more control set attack/bombard to no default.

Oh so its the fleet formation automation that controls that, I was assuming that was purely formation and not any of the actual attack settings since theres no options for that under the setting.

I shall poke around and see if I can get it going how I want then, thanks for the replies.
