I have the Lost Battles update, ver 1.07.08. Game worked fine for a while, played a full campaign against the AI with the original game. Purchased the Lost Battles update and played 25 turns of the Stalingrad to Berlin Campaign. Now when ever I end my turn the AI starts playing and after 10 minutes or so the game locks up.. The text quits updating AI 16:::101 vs 110 was the last one I had this time, it varies when it stops. I even tried opening the earlier game file but the same thing happens. I end up having to use Task Manager to close out the game. Looks like I wasted my money on this one, guess I'll go back to the old War in Russia game, at least it runs.

I am sorry that this is happening... the WitE is very very stable and crashes / freezes are EXTREMELY rare (as you can see for yourself in this "Tech Support" subforum)...

If your game freeze is repeatable can you please post the savegame file here so that we can examine it?

You have to ZIP the savegame file first!

P.S.
I saw that you wrote e-mail to me:

I had some time and ran the saved game again, apparently it's not locking up but the AI is taking a long time to do the turn. When it appeared to be locked up I opened Task Manager and it said the game was Not Responding so I closed it.

I had saved the file just before I ended my turn so I reloaded it again and turned it over to the AI. I just let it run while I did some chores, took the AI something over 2 hours to run through the turn, not sure exactly how long as I only checked it from time to time, it was still running at @2 hours then the next time I checked it had finished the AI turn.

I have a 2.7 MHz machine with 2 GB of memory running XP and the game usually manages an active axis turn in 10-20 minutes. After that one turn it seems to be working again. More than willing to send you the file, changed the save game name so I could hold onto the problem one but I don't know how to post a file at the forum.

It is always best to post here so that all 2By3 / Matrix staff can see it as well!

On rare occasions I will have lockups or CTDs during combat. In every case I have been able to "fix" the problem by rebooting.

Strange are the ways of Windows.

OK I uploaded the file so you can check it out and see if you get the same results. Just load the file and end the turn to duplicate what I did as I normally save it just before turning things over to the AI just in case something like this happens.

I don't think the problem is in the pc or Windows unless it's something my pc runs in the background. I've been working with pc's since the 8 bit 6502 processor, machine language days and use them extensively at work. When the problem first showed up the first thing I tried was restarting the pc and loading the game again and had the same problem. The problem may be in the sav file or maybe it's just a tough turn for the AI to figure out. The biggest problem was that Task Manager reported the game as Not Responding so I closed it. When I let it run until it finished the AI turn which took over 2 hours, everything worked fine after that. I've played 3 turns since then under another saved file with no problems, AI is taking it's normal 5-15 minutes to do a turn.

Don't know why the upload didn't work the first time but it's showing it here now.
