Ok, my question is quite simple. Were am i suppose to land the marines in Downfall? North of Kagoshima, suicide attack at Kagoshima(300 CD) or hex south of Kagoshima?

My carrier crews have begun to wonder if the hq ever want to invade or just have the entire carrier force sitting a few hexes north of Iwo Jima and taking everything that the japanese throws at them but the kitchen sink

Land at Kanoya with the Vth Amp Corp. Then any of the other Corps of the 6th Army and move overland to Kagoshima. You of course must have air supiority over Kyushu before hand.

Try the city hex , map north of Kagoshima.

The AI garrisons it about the same as Kanoya, its on the main road rather than down a dirt track.

Take more than VAC as you will attract a counterattack. Great place to attrit the IJA while you are getting your base/port set up.

I would also suggest taking some of the ofshore islands at the same time to set up supporting airfields and ports for your soon to be crippled ships.

You could always try Hokkaido & the Kuriles or on Honshu around Sendai for some excitement.

I went there in the end. It was also a nervous turn as i saw the japanese airforce arrive in force and my CAP became smaller and smaller for every attack. In the end i only had 28 airplanes guarding my fleet before that turn ended. I think i withstood close to 40 attacks. Every BB is present to provide AA and bombardment.

My losses: 50 planes
Japanese losses around 1400
Ships hit: One carrier got hit by a bomb

I had all carriers from Pelelieu and Guam on the spot together with around 10 from Manilla that was included in the invasionforce.

Prior to that i had used my CVs as baits south of Tokyo and shot down 2500 planes.

Total downed planes ATM is japan 8000, US 1000.

During the invasion japanese sent suicide boats and the worst thing they did was hit California with a torpedo. California left the TF and was escorted by a single destroyer towards Manilla. Five hexes from Manilla another sub hit California with two torpedoes, but the grand old lady(present at Pearl Harbor) was still floating as the turn ended.

Present at the invasionbeaches is the amphbious corps consisting of 4 infantery division, 1 hq, 1 arty and 3 tankbatallions. I brought a engineer unit, but they lack the ability to handle airplanes. I saw someone manage to scrape together over 1000 ships for their invasion, i can only get around 100.

En route from Pearl is a smaller taskforce with another few divisions.

I thought CC controll for subs was a good idea, i was wrong. 20 subs are hugging Canada and 10 are outside Manilla.

Computer Control of SS is probably a good choice, super Escorts still overpower them and they are lost in droves. Maybe only useful around Palembang.

Hint, when you get to Fukuoka you need to garrison the Timonosheki rail link, they arent in the same hex.
