Hello,
I'm planning to create a little different kind of campaign, based on the Finnish battalion ErP-18's fight against the Russians in 1944 on the Aunus front. I want to make this campaign a little more "historically correct" and realistic, and have an idea of how to do this but it demands a little more of the player. I'm curious about how such a concept would be received, so please.. comment on it.
My ideas for the campaign:
1. I'm going to pass on a save file from the first scenario together with the campaign files, where all the forces are hand-picked and edited to get the correct names and composition of the battalion (of course, this doesn't prevent the player from not loading the save file, and just go on playing it as a normal campaign!).
2. The campaign is going to be balanced for this core force, and use of it.. so it might not be as challenging for one that picks and choose all by himself.
3. Now to a big one. In many of the battles the battalion was involved in, not the whole batallion was employed. It goes all the way from half-company/company sized battles up to regimental sized battles (like my first scenario about ErP 18 at Suurimaki for those who saw it). Here, i'm planning to ask the players in the introduction text to the scenario in question to deploy only the units that were actually involved in the battle and leave the other ones outside. The battles will be balanced for a smaller force.
The alternative to this would be to make a campaign just including the larger battles, or maybe even rewrite history a bit and expand the smaller encounters to battalion sized.
4. The replacement/repair points will be kept very low/non-existant to reflect the real situation, with a more and more depleted battalion withdrawing all the way to the original Finnish border under heavy fighting. Perhaps this will be a problem in SPWAW, since battles here seem to have many more casualties than for real.. so I might give out some replacements.
Grateful for comments about this.
