How profitable is it to micromanage individual air missions rather than just let air doctrine do its thing? Its very hard to tell from either the manual or the game, how important is micromanaging air missions?

I have read and re-read the manual regarding air units and air doctrine and it is very unhelpful on this point.
(**rant begins** The whole manual is written as a log of factors influencing processes, rather than from a user's 'how to' perspective. **rant over**)

I see quite a few comments in the AARs that infer a lot of air mission micromanagement.
But when I play a scenario twice, once where I let the air doctrine do all of the air missions itself, and once where I micromanage, I don't see a lot of difference.)

Thansk for any help or advice.

Cheers

I personnely do the micro managing of airforce
- the settings dépends ont the moment of the game and the side (as GHC, I will fly a maximum during the early stage of the war)
- I adapt the % of interception to the way of playing of my opponent
- I use concentrated ground attacks to soften the defence
- I manage for the GHC the replacement of the aircrafts

Remember, these doctrines are used only for automated missions like intercepts, ground support (offensive/defensive) as well as when launching other missions without detailed mode (without shift). However, there will be no unit bombing/city bombing/airfield attacks/recons if you will not launch them yourself.
