4 th round, West of Krivoi Rog

I lost this hex but I'm really upset because, until last turn, the commander of the XXXXVI pzK was Manstein.... with him I wouldn't have lost this battle.

So the final result: GHC 3 SHC 1

Turn 105, 17 june 1943

In the East nothing new

I have now not enough air 6 rating commanders for my Luftflotte...

And surprisingly the front is quiet. I don't understand why.

Good job man. What is the shortest distance to Berlin?

Once you get the hex to turn ratio positive you got this.

The soviet needs more pioneers divs in each attack , concentrate in a point to break the front.

There is a counter to that.

Schascha is 56 hexes from Berlin. It's not enough for the moement but he doesn't advance a hex per turn.

SHC uses a lot of engineers.

I've seen up to 22 per attack.

I think that Schascha wants to optimize every attack. Perhaps he should do more and accept some defeats in order to weaken my OOB

Turn 106, 24 june 1943

As usual, Schascha hits hard

This result is achieved with only 1 rerserve activation. The final odd is 1.9/1, did the game calculate exactley in order to get the right defensive result?

I loose 2 levels of fortif but the line holds.

GHC 1 SHC 0

And loss of morale for Stavka, there is no other attack during this turn!!

A point at this time on the OOB evolution, it's better

And due to heavy fightings, my air force is also in good shape

hmm 2 points of intrest:

soviet modified CV is way too low. with 300k men and good organization he should get a skyrocking mod. CV.

and i see no reserve activation for the russians. normals infantry attacks with tanks/cavalery behind in reserve modus with a good leader (initiative).

russian player must use the reserve option often to break through.

concentration of forces helps also. we saw in the current game of terje a stable front situation until the red army made just one single mighty breakthrough. terjey fronts were then liquid and he was forced out of most of his forts to avoid encircelments.

Thx for the advices.

But now I'm completly obsessed by the activisation of my SU attached at my Corps.
If I engaged too much units in a combat, I can have only the 1/3 of them engaged

I have to accept this strange fact, and keep playing without them, even if I spent a lot of AP to attached 3 by Corps.

Schascha, I think you need to shoot for bigger reserve activations than just SUs. Start putting some corps on offensive reserve. Or even divisions or brigades. If these activate they can go a long ways towards offsetting the defensive activations on the other side.

Schascha keep a close watch on SU that you attach to Corp. I would be very interested if any start to drift back to Army HQ ala the bug in my and bobo's game against Pelton.

the axis player is doing the right thing. he breaks his "schnelle truppen" Mot./PZGr./PD into 3 "kampfgruppen" or regimental combat teams to increase the chance of their reserve activations.

i wonder how well this works on soviet side with tank/mech. regiments?

in my game vs. pelton i have a dozend of my best tank regiments at 100%TOE in reserve modus around moscow. i will report about the activation results.

Michael, I'll inform you if it's happen.

I did some test about the activation of my attached SU:
- If I engage 9 Corps with 3 SU each, only 18 SU are engaged, and if I add some arty div this number get down.

-If I engaged only 6 Corps my 18 SU are engaged and even some SU can be engaged. One time I can see 25 SU in the battle. But if I engaged some arty div in addition I can loose some of my SU.

One question: what is the difference in the final result between bombardment before the combat or include the arty div in the battle ???

I think the best way to deal with this is via maneuver units not soviet SUs. If you can get a single corps to join the fight as an offensive reserve, that by itself could be enough to do the trick and ought to trump German breakdowns. Make your attacks in sequence and put a dozen nearby corps in reserve mode (move them out of ZOC if necessary) to maximize chances of getting one into battle.

Yeah, it does become a bit of a traffic jam late in the game, especially with the artillery divisions.

Schascha is very concerned with the bug involving the use of his SU.

This game will be off until it's fixed (or he gets an explanation from 2by3)

This is a very unusual AAR. I think most Axis players would have quit before the blizzard. Very smart move to return to Poland before the blizzard and not see your army melt away. You are getting my stamp of approval.

Bozo I just resigned our game out of total frustration. Turn 4 and I am getting nothing but holds all over the front even with deliberate attacks.

I don't think the Axis can do squat against a good Soviet player with the current set up and no morale boost.

I may just stop playing for awhile until things change.

Oh crap! I thought you were doing pretty well. Your advance in the south looked scary. I was looking forward to a good and long game. Did you get holds in the middle in front of Smolensk? If you want a replay with lower moral settings that would be fine with me. Maybe 101:98? Or maybe switch sides. I don't mind trying 100:100.

BTW, Ketza, your first turn was pretty cool. I don't think I've ever seen this strategy before. And it was very effective. Locking in all my units and activating the Romanians without even doing the the Lvov pocket. Nice!

I had 5 holds or so in and around Pskov even with infantry attacking. I switched over to AGC and got 4 more near the landbridge. It occurred to me that if I was having this much trouble turn 4 it was going to be a very frustrating game with the usual result.

Your CVs were amazing so early. Turn 3 you actually made me retreat a motorized division because I could see the hurt approaching!

I will think about another game and let you know.

Sorry to hijack the AAR

Ketza you should offer Joel and Co access to this game so they can see for themselves what most Axis players now have to face from Soviet players who know how to play the game. Otherwise I fear nothing or very little is going to be done.

Once I decide I am up for some punishment I will probably start another game and do an AAR. I just had an Axis player resign in another game so I have nothing to do

I hope you find an able opponent then, as posting numerous AAR's of thrashings dished out to greenhorns doesn't help the cause.
