Here's the Murmansk area so far. John has attacked and is pushing my lines here. He's probably going to make a breakthrough.

There was some action at Murmansk. I checked out Petsmo w/ my Destroyer and found it to be empty so I sailed into port and the hex
changed to my ownership. Whereupon I sailed some FORT dudes from Archangel to Petsmo and occupied it. And since I sailed from my
hex to another of my hexes there was no invasion involved. I'm not sure that John will allow me to get away w/ that but we'll see.

I sortied the ships at Sevastapol and attacked the Romanian aircraft John just happened to have parked close to the sea. I got some
good hits for just a few ships. I'm afraid that John is going to come after me w/ his Stuka bombers now and decimate my fleet.

Here's what the front lines looked like at the end of Soviet turn 2: I've enlarged this to make it more expressive.

Expressive impressive for sure, that map is just so humongous. And to think they drove/walked all the way to Astrakhan... and back.

I thought what I should do is play as Axis against the AI just so I could get a really rough idea where John's units are right now and here's
the Wilno area of my anti-AI game. I'm guessing John's units are somewhat similar.

This is during my anti-AI playthrough, where I was moving the Axis units and I came across a unit that has spare equipment in it. I
didn't get a message about using the wrong equipment file so I'm wondering about the assignment of equipment to this unit. I'm
wondering if John has the same problem. Time for an email to John.

I brought up this scenario in the TOAW III EDITOR and my suspecisions were justified. There really is some spare equipment assigned
to one of the equipment slots instead of Finnish troops. Some editing on the equipment file is indicated.

I'm finding all kinds of things that need to be fixed. Anybody remember what nationality the green units are? Hungarian units are
brown I think. Finns are white. I don't remember what nationality the green units are. Need some help here people.

Okay. Green is Hungarian. Thank you. I'm modifying the Scenario even as we speak. The old one is v. 1.1.8 so I'm planning on
making the new improved one v 1.1.9

EDIT: As soon as I change the name of the scenario it can't find the equipment file so I'm going to leave it 1.1.8 instead. That way
it still works.

EDIT2: I edited the scenario so that the equipment lookup is correct for the Finns, Hungarians, etc. And I told John that he could just
continue onward or re-start the scenario which ever he wants to do is find w/ me.

Good catch Larry; was the spare equipment problem Axis minor problem only?

I'd say a mod to 1.1.9 is the way to go. Why was this only caught now? Is the "spare equipment" a new problem? Why is there such a category in the game anyway?

So far it is. John reports that sometimes the supply units get stuck in the mud and only work their way free after a significant period
of time and he reports that as a bug and he's looking into it. He says as soon as he can find and fix that problem he's going to do a
restart and we will be on our way w/ the game.

John is working on it even as we speak.

I'm guessing that it was never playtested properly. Maybe nobody ever looked at the equipment in the units. It could be a nontrivial
procedure to take a look at the equipment in a unit and maybe few people do it. I donno.

Is the "spare equipment" a new problem?

Whenever you build a new equipment file for a scenario you usually just add the new equipment to the end of the inventory replacing
one of the "spare equipment" slots. There are only so many slots and the way the TOAW editor works it's easiest to add the new
stuff to the "bottom" rather than insert new equipment in the "middle" somewhere. You want to change things the least possible to
avoid errors you see.

See the picture below: the Spare Equipment is what gets replaced by the new stuff. In the red box are the new squads for the Axis
minors and they were added at the end of the list replacing "spare equipment" slots.

Here's what the email said:

Hi larry I have not been able to fix the problem with the Finn's. Looking at the events in this version and earlier sersions I am starting to think that the Finns going early is a dead end or someones idea of a bad joke. Also I have not been able to change to high supply. There is no way to change it before you load the game and once you load it it is unchangable. have a look at it and see if you can change it. I am off to bed and will start the new game tomorrow night.
cheers

(1) So problem #1 is that the Finns going early is not supposed to happen so make that go away.
(2) High supply isn't on and John want's it to be. Turn high supply on somehow.

Okay, so I'll see what I can do.

Hey You guys: check my logic on this: On turn 1 there's an event 564 which enables a Theater Option which if chosen will trigger event
505 which will start the Finns early, which event, 505, I should change to just a news item only instead of setting the supply units to
garrison mode. That will fix the supply units getting stuck in the mud. Right?

Until turn 43. But I'm going to change the scenario event # 505 so that it never goes into garrison mode. Here's what I'm going to
change and what the change is.

EDIT: This is using the "old" TOAW editor because I wanted to illustrate what I'm changing and I figure anybody that owns TOAW also
owns the editor so I thought I'd use that to make the change.

Here's a copy of the new version of Rons Mod v1.1.9 if anybody wants a copy. Just truncate the dot txt off the end of the filename to
make it a zip file and unzip it. The next post will attach the equipment file for this scenario.

Here's the attachment that goes w/ the one above........this is the equipment file for the Rons Mod v1.1.9 scenario.

Just truncate the dot txt off the end of the filename to make it a zip file and unzip it. Put the "Rons Mod v1.1.9" folder in your
graphics directory. the folder should have the equipment file inside it already.

As a test of the change I made I loaded the new scenario in TOAW ( the new AAOpart version ) and took the theater option in turn 1 to
start the Finns early and ended the turn. Then when the Soviet turn came I just ended the turn. Then when it became turn 2 for the Axis
I looked for a supply unit and found one and it wasn't in garrison mode. The change worked this time.

While I'm waiting for John's first moves I've been playing against the Soviet AI and here's the front lines T1 round 2. It will be very
interesting to see where John's units move to.

EDIT: I'm using min. losses attacks because most of the Soviet stuff is entrenched and I don't want to incur the major losses that would
happen if I attacked at ignore losses, say. And then once the Soviet target is no longer entrenched THEN I use a better effort. I'm
aiming for three round turns because my arty tubes run low after two or three rounds of combat. And I'd rather have arty support when
I attack something. It's a life saver actually.
