No Signal for Silver Mist attack - 8/8/2013 9:49:26 PM

Hi!

I'm playing DW:shadows and it's brilliant so far. the AI is doing much better economically and the increased difficulty creates a fun and challenging game that stays competitive for many hours now.

Great improvement I have to say!

now to my question
my Empire is right next to a Silver Mist cluster (they are badass), and I do not get any warning signals when a silver mist attacks.

Right now the Silver mists startet a huge coordinated offensive with 4-5 Silver mists simultaniously, which is awesome, but I do not get the alarm when they attack.

This only happens with silver mists, every other hostile act against me gives me the appropriate alarm.

Anyone else had this issue?
is there an option I missclicked?

currently I've deployed 2 fleets in the region and I'm building up defense bases to hold colonies, but it's very hard to act if you get no signal whatso ever when they attack.

only once a planet is fully destroyed I get a message...

Thanks for any help, I've got my game on pause in a very critical spot here, one colony is allready gone and the line must be drawn here!

Schöne Grüße!

Hi Testmann,

That definitely sounds odd - I know we had an attack alert specifically for the Silvermist.

Could you upload a save file for us please, ideally right before a Silvermist attack?

Regards,

- Erik

Heres the save: rapidshare[dot]com/files/3832645016/01%20Testsave%20Silvermist.zip
(can't post links, please replace the [dot] with an actual dot, thanks!)

upload took a while ^^

I am playing with Distant Worlds Extended Mod (latest version).
(with a slight race specific modification, I hope it has no effect on compatibility)

Ingame I've got an Exploration ship called "01 Test Explorer"
It's vector goes right to a Silvermist, and when it gets attacked I don't get a signal or a log information.

all other Alarms work fine except for silver mist attacks.

Thanks for your time and quick reply!
Best regards

ok, I think I've uploaded it to the server now (hope it worked).

The filename is "01 Testsave Silvermist Alarm.dwg"
ftp://DistantWorldsCustomer@beta.matrixgames.com/01%20Testsave%20Silvermist%20Alarm.dwg

again, I'm playing with DW Extended Mod (latest version), thers a tiny change I made, but I hope it doesn't affect the compatibility.

I've got an Exploration ship called "01 Test Explorer" on a travel vector towards a silver mist.
It should get attacked right after it enters the system.

In my game I didn't get any notification for the ship being attacked.

Best Regards!

I've reported a similar thing previously. Since Shadows' release, I've never had any kind of alert when attacked by any of the space monsters. A little inconvenient, because you don't notice when your ships are being chewed up by space monsters. Others have confirmed the same issue.

Noticed the same as well. The first clue I had of a Silver Mist wave was a "Colony XXX was wiped out by a dangerous Monster" message.

Thinking about this again it seems clear that:

1. Some people are experiencing this problem, not just occasionally, but every time (as I said, I've never played a Shadows' game that didn't have this problem).

2. Plenty of people (probably most people) don't seem to be experiencing the problem, including the developers, as it doesn't seem to be something many people are talking about.

3. In that case, it seems unlikely that having a save game would help solve the problem. Every single one of my save games would reproducibly demonstrate the problem on my computer, but I suspect it would not be reproducible on others' computers.

4. Is there any other system information that might help the developers get to the bottom of this issue? A save game could easily be provided, but I doubt you'd find anything awry with it.

Note that this issue should be resolved in the 1.9.0.10 update.

Thanks

My apologies: you are correct. I should have checked the latest version before opening my keyboard!
