Hi Gents,

I'm after some hard and fast numbers on Carrier Co-ordination numbers? Specificity Jap Carriers. Its April 1943 and I've put KB into the perfect spot twice to dumpster on some allied cruisers and transports, but instead of the 200 aircraft strike I've been getting in 1942, I'm lucky to get 30 Judys/Kates aircraft.

I've had a bit of a search in the manual and tried to search the forum but havn't had much luck.

So can anyone help me?

Cheers,
Hooper

Allied varies year to year but for Japs its always 200 I think so I suggest ( as a Jap player) keeping all Jap TF with less than 200 planes - they can follow each other around and be in the same hex etc.

Early in the war you can pair up the fast CV in twos but as the risk increases and your initiative wains I forget about speed in normal conditions and go for 2 cv and a CVL which is always slower. The CVL usually caries just Zeros. Or as its now feb 43 in my game Zeroes plus some excellent Judy recon planes.BUT I always have under 200 planes as an uncoordinated strike will get butchered.

Also check you leadership numbers. There must have been attrition and you might not have the leadership that you once had in early '42.

Have you upgraded to a beta? In the later beta versions, coordination is much harder.

However, what the manual actually says about IJN coordination is that the chance for uncoordinated strikes is DOUBLED, IF the number of aircraft in the TF is greater than 200 + (random 1-200). So call the base chance for uncoordination X. If you have 200 aircraft or less in the TF, it will always be X. If you have 400 or more aircraft, it will always be 2X. If you have 300 aircraft, it basically amounts to 1.5X (half the time you will have a double chance, half the time you won't).

All of that doesn't mean automatic failure to coordinate at 400+ aircraft, just that the chance is doubled. As far as I know, the base chance (X, above) is dependent on leader values:

1. TF Commander AIR skill
2. Individual unit commanders' AIR skill

Ok thanks guys!

I did read somewhere in my searching that the later it got, the harder it is for Jap Carriers to Co-ordinate strikes, and the easier it is for Allied carriers? I.e. the 200 number goes down for the Japanese and up for the Allies in 1943-1944-1945?

Re: Beta, no, I'm April 10, 1943 in an awesome PBeM game. We'll upgrade to the Beta for the next game I think.

7.2.1.11 COORDINATING STRIKES

The coordination of air strikes is affected by how many Carrier aircraft are based in the TF launching a strike. The chance of uncoordination is doubled under the following circumstances:

»»Allied TF in 1942 and the number of aircraft in the TF is greater than 100 + rnd (100).
»»Allied TF in 1943 and the number of aircraft in the TF is greater than 150 + rnd (150).
»»Allied TF in 1944 or later or a Japanese TF at any time and the number of aircraft in the TF is greater than 200 + rnd (200).
