ORIGINAL: Chickenboy quote:
ORIGINAL: Richard III "You can gain sizeable SPs by bombing aircraft / engine factories, HI centers, oil, refineries and the like. Bombing manpower will create firestorms (if done right). These firestorms can cause indiscriminate damage to any of the aforementioned in the hex. It's the same effect (in terms of SPs) as damaging / destroying individual targets, it's just proportioned out differently." One of the 12,586 things I didn`t know about WITPAE.. I don`t pay much attention to them, do the SP points show up in the VP totals in some way ? 1SP=1VP, just as the VPs in the other categories are synonymous too. If you were to tabulate all of the categories for different VPs (air loss differential), VPs from enemy ships sunk, etc., you'd reach the grand total in the lower left. What is not understood and what this AAR might end up exploring is the question of just how effective is strategic bombing ? That is will a strategy of bypassing everything and having lots of errors made by staff flunkies made moot by establishing B29 and other 4E access to the home lands ... My limited experience tells me that this strategy can be / is effective and that thousands of VP's over a 24 month period can be gained by turning Japan into ash ...including points by bombing ships in progress in ports and aircraft on the ground ... One downside of this strategy is that some of the bypassed bases are large IJ points banks ...given that the game emphasizes the denominator of the equation the Allied/IJ must be 2:1 by end of the game (or 3:1 by January '44) each IJ point taken away is in effect 3 points toward that goal in '44 and 2 points in '45 as compared to just gaining Allied points .. so twice as many strat points are required ('45 AV standards) than other base points .. but I calculate now that this is not only possible but a viable strategy despite the many errors made by staff flunkies ... I am still not sure if the historical "arc light" firebombing missions in this game are a better strategy than concentrating on research aircraft factories and then the most viable aircraft manufacturing .... My last game ended before I got to set fire to Japan ...
