Well, Van Persie scored 20 pts. He's the captain.

I'm up to 31 now that they've doled out the bonus points. Of course, it would have been more if the real managers knew how to organise a team properly. Mr Wenger, j'accuse!

The first weekend (but not the first round of fixtures) is over. It's probably apparent that the Brits didn't do too well and I think some of the people mentioning their lack of knowledge may have been fibbing

Although it's early, both JeffK and Admiral Stricker have opened a sizeable gap through the work of Robin van Persie Both JeffK and Admiral S. earned more points through their defensive players (thus proving my theory on defenders was tosh!). JeffK had three high scoring defenders whilst Admiral S plumped for Simon Mignolet of Liverpool who saved a penalty and earned three bonus points despite an indifferent start.

My total was ruined by several things. My captain (Mata) didn't play against Hull, neither did Snodgrass for Norwich and my other big bucks midfielder (Cazorla) didn't start. Cazorla played 90 minutes (1 point) and got a yellow card (-1 point). So if Mata doesn't play against Villa I miss the double points for my captain And one of my keepers got injured.
To make things worse, I had considered dropping one of my midfielders and putting Ross Barkley of Everton in, I didn't and young Barkley scored a goal

After two days the table looks like this....

Barring an absolute stormer for Chelsea against Villa it's likely that our top two will stay there until next weekend.

Gameweek 1

This is what I make the table with one game to go tomorrow (Man City vs Newcastle) and one in the week (Chelsea vs Aston Villa).

1. Laralayabouts2 (JeffK) – 65pts
2. Last Post ( ? ) – 51pts
3. FC Stricker (Admiral Stricker) – 50pts
4. Matrix FC (th1207) – 44pts
5. Les Paul (VPaulus) – 42pts
6. Lord of the Ings (Encircled) – 39pts
7. Ormster United (Orm) – 38pts
8. Tired & Emotional (Dixie) – 37pts
9. Warspite Hotspur FC (warspite1) – 34pts
10. Zeta16 (Zeta16) – 23pts
11. Sardaukars (Sardaukar) – 21pts

A stunning performance from the English (as expected)

Looks like Encircled and Sardaukar's scores have been updated now.

List of excuses why I am languishing in either 8th, 9th or 10th (depending on Encircled and Sardaukars real scores) are:

- My gamble on removing van Persie was just rubbish - no excuses, JUST. PLAIN. DUMB

- My gamble on Bent didn't come off but hopefully he will play in future

- I should go with my hunches- I said in an earlier post Cazorla was a risk as I could see Arsenal getting turned over.... and then left him in

- I did not see Snodgrass was injured - again bad planning on my part

I'm still waiting for Man City match.
I'm pleased with my team, but I need to tweak it. I should exchange Nani, but I want a Portuguese player in my team.
Mata wasn't injured but he didn't play. Hmmm, maybe the special one thinks that he doesn't work enough. If that's the case than he will be in the bench for a couple of games... at least.

I'm sure the English will end up well. So is this going to be another rot season for the gunners?

I've been hoping and praying for a rubbish season for the Gunners (being the sporting gent that I am ) since the last time we finished ahead of them in 1995...

BUT - no matter how bad they appear, no matter how much money we spend and they don't spend, they always beat us in the end....

Out of interest VP, what was the thinking behind the Italy-style strip you have chosen?

Its early days.
Its a marathon not a sprint.
Add any other cliche designed to make rubbish managers feel better

The problem for those without RvP is being able to afford him - unless they use a Wildcard... way to early for that.

The team which I support, is Belenenses, a Portuguese team. Our kit is similar to the Italian national team.

Our goalkeeper is English. Unfortunately, there aren't many English players and managers playing in our league.

We lost our match today, so it's a sad day. Well to be honest I'm used to it.

Re the strip - thank you.

Re the sentence in bold - no there aren't many English in our league either

I missed with Mata but assume he will play midweek.

Yes its a long season with plenty of chances to tweak your teams.

@ warspite 1:

Snodgrass´injury wasn´t noted at all. - Is there any other reliable source for that kind of information?

Ouite pleased with my 1st week result. - Still learning the game mechanics.

Congrats to Jeff, Mike and Stricker for their outstanding performance.

This one is good for injuries and suspensions.

Fantasyfootballscout

Though Mata is one of the best players in the league, the rumours that he doesn't fit in with the Mourinho ethos refuse to go away, so that might be a reason he's not playing

If he doesn't play in the next couple of matches I bet that's the reason, and he will stay on the bench for some time.

And he'll be out of my team quicksmart!!

How can a Manager have someone that good and not play him??

I suppose as long as they win.....

That's more usual than you think. Although Mourinho is known to set aside players which don't fit his ethos.
It's not easy to manage all those players egos and build a strong team. That's what he also tried to do in Real Madrid but partially failed. Too many Prima Donnas....

I've got no problems with fitting RVP into my team. It might cost a few points but I could do it with just a couple of switches, it's the benefit of having two expensive midfielders in there. I was trying to avoid picking him as it seems too 'obvious' and no-one knows whether he'll be able to manage another season without breaking himself again.

I should say Last Post is me, ezz.
Go English!

Fantasyfootballscout is better than premier league injuries as although PML have good data on injuries and return dates they don't have suspensions.

As for Mata. Mr Special didn't NEED him vs Hull City. He was just bench insurance. As Aston Villa turned over Wenger I expect he'll start Wednesday.

In the Telegraph fantasy league had best start ever! Top 20.
Silva just scored. Had to take him out to get RVP in. How much is Barclay?

...and Negredo wasn't even playing....disaster!!! Then he comes on and (this from the BBC)

Alvaro Negredo is denied a debut goal by the assistant referee's flag. And it looks like he was wrongly diddled out of it as well. The Spaniard was on hand at the far post to turn the ball home after Newcastle's Tim Krul had pushed away Edin Dzeko's header. Negredo looked in line with the last defender at worst when his team-mate nodded goalwards.

AARRRGGHHHH One of those nights I guess.....

So here is the latest table with one game of Gameweek 1 to go (Chelsea vs Aston Villa). I notice they have not added the subs yet so there may be some extra points for some of us i.e. where for example a defender did not play, the first defender sub may take his place.

1. Laralayabouts2 (JeffK) – 65pts
2. Last Post (ezz) – 61pts
3. FC Stricker (Admiral Stricker) – 50pts
4. Les Paul (VPaulus) – 48pts
5. Matrix FC (th1207) – 44pts
6. Zeta16 (Zeta16) – 43pts
7. Warspite Hotspur FC (warspite1) –41pts
8. Lord of the Ings (Encircled) – 39pts
9. Ormster United (Orm) – 38pts
10. Tired & Emotional (Dixie) – 37pts
11. Sardaukars (Sardaukar) – 35pts

I made a mistake not to play Nolan and Aghbonlahor...but I thought away matches being bit iffy for Aston Villa.

Apparently I made lots of mistakes I think that overall my selections will pay off in the long term, but there are decisions to be made. I'm not making any knee-jerk reactions, changes to personnel will happen but only to make sure I'm ready for the weekend after next when Chelsea aren't playing. After week 3/4 I might look at a more comprehensive shuffling of the pack.

As well as kicking anyone with more points than me out of the league

P.S. I've got teams in a few other leagues on other sites, most of those are doing better as I picked players on a hunch rather than using logic and my knowledge. Verdammt!

Well I didn't make any mistakes - it was circumstances beyond my control, the referee, the linesman, the other managers, there all cheats and and....

A. Wenger.
