Is this game dead? It looks like there are two problems with what should have been a popular seller - price and moddability. From reading the forums it appears that the game has some unfixed problems, many of which might have been fixable by editing stats.

I usually have no problems with Matrix pricing (the distant Worlds series and War in the East are just fine), but this title seems way too high. If it is as imbalanced and unsupported as the forums indicate, why would anyone buy it at $50? A shame, I was rather interested.

I bought the game when it was $50 and still play it today, it does seem a little bit high considering its rather outdated in every way. I would love to see it modable or at least with an editor to have some fun with it. However I believe the game is dead,
which sucks because its one of the few titles from Matrix i continue to play over and over.

I would like to see it get remade, or upgraded, however its just not going to bring enough new customers in to support the project. However I would like to have just an editor, at least able to make campaigns or at least modify the databases.

solops question about price is very relevant.

Instead of no interest at USD$50, would they get some interest at USD$25??

Any marketing person could explain this...some people are willing to pay $50, and some are only willing to pay $25. If Matrix priced games at $25, then their total revenue would be less because more of the potential buyers are $50 people (I am assuming that Matrix has done the marketing analysis).

At least that's what they taught when I went to school...

i purchased this game last DEC during the holiday special, but only after i saw another patch was coming. It looked as the game was going to continue develop...so i'm dis-appointed. Guess i should start play as is.

if the patch wasn't announced, i would've passed.

So the salesman is happy selling no units at $50.

I thought a good salesman found the value that the market was willing to pay and sold as many units as possible.

OK, I have a marketing degree and an engineering degree, too. Let's see...repackaging of two old games...now the repackage is several years old...support questionable at best... low board activity...not much chance for future sales here..OK.

Sell 6 games at $20 or $25 to the curious versus 1 game at $50 to ???. An easy decision.

Upon Further Consideration, I am not sure I would pay for this game at $20, given some of the comments about imbalance, UI and lack of a patch found in this forum. Whatever....

I hate to tell ya, but just about every game runs into the same problems - Devs will patch up much as they can before developement stops completely. Its still an excellent game and for the price, I happily enjoy it and continue to play it.

Reminds me of Red Baron II, it was rushed before christmas as one of the top games of its day, problem was it was completed, with massive problems that never got resolved. However the fan base took over and fixed up much of the problems, It would be nice if ED:BTR had that same fanbase, unlike WITP AE where its still heavily backed, this game probably been around far to long and it has lost interest.

Hi, I don't think this game haven't fanbase, the problem is the lack of an editor.
The reasons have been discussed many times in this forum, and I think we never have
one.

@Solops: money is your and you do what you want, but this game is really a little gem,
sure with its flaws, but I played EDtBR for years and still playing a PBEM campaign
right now. It's a fun game, and you cannot find something similar in the market.
I'm an EDtBR addicted...

I think our only hope is that someone decides to do an 'Ace's Edition', with enhancements, patches, and an editor. Of course, we'd all have to buy it again ;-)

I would love an Ace edition, however I would prefer them to do what they usually do and give a percentage off if someone already owns a copy of the game.

Ok this may seem rather naive, but, since the developers have "abandoned" the game, as consumers is it not now essentially "our" game and not "their" game? And if it is "our" game, why can't we do the modding add the editor and patch etc. etc? I guess there may be some legal ramifications in all this, but I don't see why. If we are not selling the editor or mods why should there be? I kind of liken this to owning a car. If I tinker with the engine and manage to fine tune it to get better gas mileage, am I breaking the law? I don't think so. To me this is the same. Lots of people will still buy the game, but probably never find this board, so they won't get the fine tuning. Therefore we haven't interfered with any sales. Like I said maybe I am naive about this sort of thing.

Just to be perfectly clear I am not condoning any thing illegal or "pirating" or some other such. I would just like to see the game improved to where we as players want it to be and if the people who developed this game aren't going to do it, then we should do it.

I guess at the end of the day, instead of all of us wishing and hoping for a "fix" for EDBTR, why don't WE as a group "FIX OUR" game? I admit I know nothing about software or how to create a editor or mod, but I am willing to help in any other way I can. So anybody willing to give it a go?

Don't think the promised patch will ever be done. Shame, yet another game with great potential but not the money or motivation to make it work.

I for one am not interested in buying a third copy of this game to get a patch that we have been waiting for for four years. (like the alliteration there)

It's obvious the lack of a editor is what killed the potential of the game. The community would have taken this great game to new levels. The patch promised is, if I've understood this correctly, based on volunteer work which is a great shame.

The publishers are really only interested in cash cow titles that are all shiny surface and no substance.

Exactly. For years the developers had been promising a much-needed patch. But in the end, they started making more and more lame excuses. They didn't keep their word, and finally abandoned the still-broken game. Shameful behavior.

Is there such a thing as a Trading Standards Dept. in the USA?

Buying this game is rather like buying a car with one wheel smaller than the other 3; you can still drive it, but....

Question is, is it really "broken"?
Sure there are things to fix but really broken... no don't think so.
Bad is that the guys that worked on it don't seem to be around anymore, so we even run out of sources for clarifying certain things.

The game is playable, but many features don't work correctly, or need to be adjusted. Just look through the forum and you know what I mean.

By the way, I still have a copy of the last 'unofficial' Eagle Day: BTR editor that was released to a select few a couple of years ago. There was some stupid controversy about it originally, and the creator removed it from this forum. The developers were too protective over their precious game. The game has now since been abandoned, so I will be uploading it again. Unfortunately the original creator of the editor (who wants to remain anonymous) has long since left this forum, so I doubt we'll be seeing any updated versions. But as it is, it's still pretty good!

As K19 says, it's very poor in parts.

Take the PBEM I am playing: on the replay screen I cannot tell if my fighter sweeps have destroyed any a/c on the ground. And the replay is laughable: my bombers are escorted by Lancasters or Wellingtons (at least, those are the icons I'm seeing) or sometimes Me110s; I am intercepted by Lancasters.... words fail me.

Not to mention the boomerang bomber missions.

It seems likely that Matrix bought this title thinking it would be a easy makeover and then they'd make some off of it. Instead, they found that the game is very complex, they didn't understand it, they knew little or nothing about the machines, battles and history... they made of it what they could didn't care for the bugs (wasn't worthwhile) gave it a nice superficial boxing and sold it. Then they made a few bucks off it, set some volunteers on improving it so that they could take their hands off without complete embarrassment.

It might be they didn't support community efforts of fixing the game as it would be too embarrassing to them.

All of the above is speculation however and I do not know. However I do believe that the ultimate show of failure was in not supporting the community in improving the game, for the community is ultimately what supports them.
