The game ran fine for me until yesterday, now I get mouse lag and choppy graphics which make it difficult to play.
I re installed the game but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Hello,

is it the only application or game that has a different behavior/problems on your system ?

Which version of the game are you running ?

Did you do anything that could have caused the change (e.g. updating the game or a graphic driver) ?

Can you provide a screenshot, and your system data ?

Location of the screens and additional info can be read here:

Other games run fine. I am not aware of anything changing on my PC. I am attaching a dxdiag for you to look at, I cannot find the GAW logs, could they be stored in another place?

It seems that my mouse is stuck in slow motion, I tried several other games and had no problem. I click and move a unit, I get the sound effect then the hex path slowly lightens then the unit slowly moves.
Any ideas?
By the way I am using the up to date version of the game.

Hello Ralph,

thanks for the dx data - sadly it shows nothing unusual. It seems to be a timing problem but the cause is obscure.

Have you any effects turned on in windows ?

Did you try both fullscreen and windowed mode ?

Could you please change the resolution and report if the problem persists ?

We really in the dark atm.

The logs are most likely at the told position if you have not moved the position of your user data in general.

Regards,

Hello,

thanks for the patience. We could try one thing that might help here.

In the directory C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Germany at War

there is a file called ogre.cfg and it should contain data simular to this:

Render System=Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem

[Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem]
Allow NVPerfHUD=No
FSAA=0
Floating-point mode=Fastest
Full Screen=Yes
Multi device memory hint=Use minimum system memory
Rendering Device=Monitor-1-ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series
Resource Creation Policy=Create on all devices
Use Multihead=Auto
VSync=Yes
VSync Interval=1
Video Mode=1280 x 1024 @ 32-bit colour
sRGB Gamma Conversion=No

You have to change VSync=Yes to VSync=No and save the file. Then start the game. Hopefully this does the trick.

Regards,

Hello,

there is a chance if soemthing of the OS interacts with the game that starting it in a Win XP compatible mode resolves this.

You can get such a mode by right clicking the .exe.

And you are sure it is not linked to e.g. a map size ? If you load Dubno-Brody or Stalingrad does not change this behavior ?

Regards,

I tried XP mode. I also loaded those 2 scenarios that you suggested to no avail.

Hello,

so the situatioon is:

- the game work fine first
- out of the blue it got timing problems
- neither the game nor the OS or drivers were changed by you
- no adjustments of the game solved the problem

Do you run any programs that might have done an auto update without your notice ?

EDIT: You could try to reduce the shadow resolution in the options - sometimes this can slow down.

Regards,

You are correct about my situation, a couple of days ago the program started acting up and I haven't been able to correct it.
It is possible that there was an auto update that I am not aware you. I tried changing the shadow resolution but that didn't help.
I have no idea of what causes the problem.

the game never acted like this so far without a reason. So this makes it hard to determine.
The normal things a player does with the game cannot alter enough to cause problems like this.
And as Germany at War worked fine first, our conclusion would be an outside source being responsible for it. What is strange is that it does not affect other programs.

Regards,

I have had some success getting the game to work. I switched up between the NATO and standard graphics and for some odd reason the game responded better.

you mean you switch between counters and 3D models and the clicks feel like getting faster responses from the game ?

Do you have to do this any time you want to play ? Once or several times ?

Is it playable after that or just a bit faster ?

Does remaining in one of the modes (Counter/3D) feel better than in the other ?

Regards,

Yes switching to the counters seems to speed up the game, even when I switch back to the 3D models the game works.
I have had to do this most of the time that I play, I have no idea why it works.
I prefer the 3D models whenever I play, I will test again later this week when I have some time to play.
