Status: offline 		It is going to be hard to beat Ageods' first Civil war game. It is one of my all time favorite games. But I just feel this one is going to be great! Good luck with this Ageod.

Status: offline 		Agree but they need to do a better job of creating excitement about this game with screenshots, AARs etc. They are playing this to close to the vest I think. It is in Beta testing after all.

I don't know what game you play, but my version of the game wasn't a mess at all. Years of fine tuning and patching have made this game a classic. Hardly a mess.

Status: offline 		I so badly wanted to like the first game.  When it first came out I downloaded the demo and tried hard to figure the game out.  I couldn't.  I waited a couple years and downloaded again.  Same thing happened.  I struggled visualizing.  The card/face icons didn't work for me.  I struggled visualizing who is in command of what.  I struggled knowing what units were in which divisions or corps.  I even struggled visualizing what units in towns vs in forts vs in divisions.  I struggled finding unassigned leaders.  I even struggled finding leaders on the map.  I struggled understanding the size of forces.  In other words, I struggled.

I know Forge of Freedom has many issues (over aggressive AI, Richmond garrision too large just to name two).  But at least in Forge of Freedom I can visualize what's going on.

I'm a bit perplexed as well. AACW is not without quirks, but it's a pretty fantastic game. It really has been honed to as close to perfection as that version of their engine allows over the years. One of my favorite games ever, for sure. Right up there with Civ II

This is the type of gratuitous comment that just reflects badly on the poster... I assume you had a bad day and move on.

You could have said that the AI was weak, that the cavalry raiding was excessive, that the supply model was broken, or any critic that one can perfectly legitimately back up but this type of comment... Come on..

Status: offline 		I hate the combat engine. The results are vague and they have never been fully explained other than forum posts. The tutorial was poor and the engine was clunky.

Status: offline 		There are a lot of negative comments here, but I hope you will all give this game a try. AACW had some problems, largely worked out with the help of devoted fans. AACW2 is a whole new beast with an improved game engine, refined interface and a long list of innovative features. Despite the Matrix announcement, it is not a division-level game. Individual units go down to the battery/regiment/ship level, which can then be grouped into larger formations.

I also note that AGEod is giving a portion of the profits from the game to the Civil War Trust, a charitable organization dedicated to preserving Civil War battlefields. Thank you, AGEod.

Status: offline 		ACW 1 is awesome and I'm looking forward to part II. I just wish AGEOD would eventually get around to implementing some kind of tactical engine to allow more control over individual fights. The new battle planner is at least a step in the right direction, though.

Status: offline 		Well, i can understand if they don't come up with a module like 'Scourge of War' (SOW) to make
AACW the ultimate game of all times, but maybe an export as CSV-file before battle to create
our own order-of-battle-file for SOW and an import for the battle results.

Status: offline 		Look guys give the game a chance. AACW1 had growing issues and some of you will think the same about
this one. It's stable and playable. The patches will tweak the game just like AACW1 was tweaked.
Remember that once this game hits the mainstream with all the unknown variables that brings, errors
crop up that will need to be addressed. Ageod will fix them as soon as possible. Like I said the
game is stable and playable. I will buy it first thing.

Status: offline 		Well, the engine seemed great, and AARs made me buy the first game, but the UI was terrible and the map an eyesore (the color-choice was 'questionable'). Using the later style of UI and maps, combined with a decent tutorial, Civil War 2 looks promising.

Status: offline 		I am reassured by some of the coments on this thread. I have struggled with the AGEOD engine since their first release and frankly have a love/ hate relationship with the games I have (and I have most of them).

As far as the first ACW release goes I soon found myself way in over my head. The number of units to micromanage became too much for me. I guess I struggled with all the little decisions I was forced to make with each move. For example choosing which individual artillery battery to buy seemed to stretch the idea of being an overall commander too much.

The map was very artistic and by only that criterion was well done but it was not very functional and was difficult to use. It was crowded and the on-map units obscured much of the information and the vital eastern campaign regions were way too compressed. I admit I gave up playing in frustration.

I have been able to play AJE and RoP both against the AI and PBEM. Moves in both took less than a half-hour. I suspect palying the whole enchilada (grand campaign) will take much longer and be too much for the time and energy I have to game.

I think I will pass on ACWII and see if they release some DLC down the line with limited scenarios. This thread has been very helpful to me. Gald to hear others have struggled as I have.

Obviously it was for more than a few, because this complaint pops up again and again. If it was real easy it would have taken little or no time to figure out. It was just way too cumbersome to do and undo. If this was addressed I'd take another whack at it.

Status: offline 		The problem is that dropping was imprecise - it had to be on just the right pixel. Miss it and you had to do it again - not worth it, imo.

Status: offline 		I love Revolution Under Siege, and yet, AACW 1 and Rise of Prussia did nothing for me. Can't explain why. Probably all those tanks in the RUS Drang21 scenario. I assume the "models" unit data files are still easily moddable? Just a matter of seeing how long I can resist, I guess

i think they only included (AACW1) so far ... at least seem like that on their forum. anyway thanks i will ask there. I see there are no other pbem Multiplayer clubs yet for AACW1 & 2.
