The game description claims it is a multi-player 1-4 game. I understand 2 players; one Union and one Confederate. But if it's a 3 or 4 player game, who/what are players #3 and #4?

In case of foreign entries, the British and French have separate files/factions/AI.

Before this topic gets too far off the subject, let me ask the question again ... Description page says it's a 1-4 player game. If North is player 1 and South is player 2 than what/who is player 3 and 4? Note how even Pocus from Ageod Staff wasn't even able to clearly answer the question. Hmmm, maybe I'm not asking it correctly. Are my writing skills that bad?

You could have as many per side as you wanted I would guess...emailing the file back and forth would mean you could have different partners command different areas and the forces in that area only. Another partner could oversee reinforcements, new units, supply...etc

Does that make sense?

LOL. Okay I guess it's my writing. Let me go about this a different way. Hmmm. Okay, how about this .............

The description page says it's a 1-4 player game. Someone that has the game, please set up a 4 player game and see what happens. How does the game organize the four players?

Does that make more sense

set up a dropbox.

you need 2 turn files as usual - one Union, one Confederate. 2 players in each faction.

1st one opens the relevant turn/hst/save file and makes their share of the moves and decisions (lets assume you have Virginia/Maryland as one command and the 'West'). 2nd player on that side then takes the save and completes the move.

Put the combined .ord file back in the dropbox (I use this rather than emailing files). Once both .ord files are ready, host runs the turn as normal and sends out the files as per usual. So a wee bit slower than 2 player PBEM and a bit more fiddly than in the 3 faction games (some AJE scenarios and RuS)

Thank you very much. That makes sense ... sort of. But I'd argue that isn't truly a 4 person game. Using that system I can't see why it couldn't be a 20 person game with 10 on each side. It would be a organizational nightmare but could be done. Call me old fashioned but when I saw "4 person" I thought the traditional way ... first player inputs everything and sends on ... 2nd player inputs everything and sends on ... 3rd ... 4th... and repeat. No sharing or having to agree who has what. The traditional 1st player is German, 2nd player Italy, 3rd player UK, and so on.

aye, I'd agree, to me its not really 4 player. But I've yet to get into the campaign or PBEM with this one, but I can't think it is around foreign intervention as that would be utterly boring for any players taking those sides unless intervention fired.

It may be that the PBEM order generation system is set up to automate the routine I sketched out.

Hi guys

this seems like a misunderstanding on the our side between the team and the box layout/product pages and we're going to get the info updated. Currently you can only play 1-2 players in the game. Technically you can play 4 players with British & French but no scenarios are set with these sides active so you'd have nothing to do.

If we add scenarios at some point where you can play with 4 players from the beginning we'll add this back in but it is misleading at the moment to suggest it is a viable 4 player game. It is really a 2 player game currently. Apologies for any confusion here.

Iain

ok just to continue on the MP games.....Play CW I all the time with PBEM using drop box. I must be missing something I have set up 5 or 6 games but every time I look in the save game folders I never see anything but the USA ord file and a hst file. Where is all the CSA files?? ie. Trn?
Is there a MP option I need to click first?

yes, the PBEM process changed between the release of ACW1/NCP and the more recent games.

to set it up, the host saves a game and then sends the order files etc to the opponent. Manual is pretty good at explaining this process

Hmm all I see is my ord file that being the USA. There is nothing there for the CSA. Normally I would send my opponent the CSA trn and rpl files. No where to be seen. I will re-read the section pg 12 and 13.
