Hi StoneAge, I see you destroyed +/- 100 Me163...waht do you think about this Luftwaffe model performance?
I'm an Axis player and I'm interested to listen Allied opinion. Thanks.

I find that if the Me163 get to the bombers they shoot down a plane or two. In this current game the bigest enemy is thier own HAA based at their PRI AF as a lot are shot down on landing.

Operation Cobra was 25 July - You have a week to go. (I think they coded things to set dates +- a day or 2.)

Very good read.

I am chiming in a little late in this but a few things:

Dive bombing works best from 14K to 16K. At low alt. (8k) they must glide bomb which is less accurate. At 500ft they must level bomb and take extreme losses. You might want to consider doing less damage per attack from 15k but being able to get in 2 or 3 times the attacks for the same losses.

The second and subsequent squadrons in a raid are attacking an alerted enemy and do less damage and take more casualties. You might want to consider sending in your FB raids as one or two squadron groups spaced throughout the day.

Bomber command, with high experiance and high moral lead units, if you arrange to arrive at the target in good light (16+ is what I look for), can knock out high flak airfields. Use small raids to several different targets at the same time. The ones you miss you go for again next day and next and next. The bombing kills moral even if you don't KO the target.

You might also try using single BGs at high altitude on extreme flak targets. If a BG hits it will usually KO the service of an airfield which kills the moral of the units there. You will miss more than you hit but if you target every field every day you will make him change fields a lot and it takes a lot of points to move 200 flak guns.

Misson result:

Not what I expected the two raids that went all the way dropped bombs like they where blind men.

One was attacked on the way back. They had all the p-51's with them bad luck for the germans who came after them.

Day 77

Put in some of the suggestions above to see if they will work.

BC going the long way after chem and a size 60 rubber plant I take that out and rubber should be almost finished.

Heavies going after steel in the ruhr

Mediums airfields again

FB at a new hight of 14900 last time I was up here they got cained.

Mozzies taking out steel at long range

Lightning bombing anything they are allowed to Airfield or factory

mission report:

Got smashed today the havocs have taken mass losses, split up into three groups and today the germans come out to play in a big way. Only bright side is he lost a lot of fighers.

BC and the heavies both failed so did the high alt attack on the airfields.

FB's did not lose as many planes but did no real damage today.

Big problem today is the 16th the start of cobra and the front has not moved I think I maybe in real trouble.

Day 78:

Rest day for heavies and most of BC and mediums

Still a lot of small raids going on.

One high level Heavie raid is going after PRI AF, this raid is covered buy my best fighter groups and I hope he comes after it with what he did yesterday as he may get a nasty suprise.

Forgot to mention the Germans have two more groups of 262's up front, they where the ones who did most of the damage to the havoc raids and took out a large number of the fighter escort.

Day 79:
Panic starting to set in over the front line not moving

Rubber has been smashed (under 500 starts to effect other industry)

Today is 3 chem targets, 3 Rubber and 1 steel.

New DB attacks from 14500 seem to be working will give it a few more days before I decide if it is a winner or not.

About 5 PRI AF have Me 262 flying from them now

Mission report:

My two B17 raids at his PRI AF hit nothing and lost a few planes

I am using the lightnings in a bombing role and they seem to do a good job on undefended PRI AF from 14500
