I reminder playing the original Harpoon for the PC running on my Macintosh using an emulator. Talk about slow.

I am looking forward to this game and reading about creating scenarios and various databases for the game.

My question is more prosaic. Do you have plans to create a central repository where individuals can upload scenarios and databases so folks can easily find material without needing to search a variety of web sites? If you do have a repository planned, do you have a method to organize the material to make it easily searchable?

I realize that this topic is not as exciting as many other but I think these type of details can help make the game flourish. I am not trying to throw stones but I am familiar with the various Harpoon sites and some of the "disagreements" that occurred (still occurring) between individuals and would hate to see that here. Thus, creating and controlling the repository by the same folks who create and control the game to me is important. As an example of the approach, see the Repository created and maintained by Battlefront, the makers of the Combat Mission games.

Thanks.

I'm not sure how the modding works, but I have a feeling half the user scenarios are going to use modded databases.

Is the modded database name tied to the scenario so the correct database is used when the scenario is loaded, or are we going to have to manually overwrite the database each time we play a different scenario?

The Main DB3000 cannot be mod by user. You can however modify units and bases in the scenario editor and they would get saved as part of the scenario. So you can download any scenario and it would work.

@jflatto: We have added a downloads page that currently serves as the central store for community scenarios not yet bundled with the official release. The page is here.

@RockKahn: Each scenario is tied to the specific DB version it was last saved/rebuilt with, and uses that version automatically. There is no user intervention whatsoever. In the (unlikely) case that the scenario cannot locate the file corresponding to the desired DB version, it notifies the user so that then he can request it from the DB author.

Thanks!

Yeah and there is a way to save the delta's and import them into another scenario as well.

The idea is that we're swinging the focus on to scenario construction. There are a ton of amazing features to create scenarios. We've got imports that let you import units you've saved before in or one of the 1000's of air bases we've created for you. We've got overlays which let you bring in imagery from open sources. We've got an event editor that adds endless variability to your scenarios and storylines.
