Coral Sea Scenario - 9/25/2013 7:41:55 PM

Hi guys it has been a few years since playing UV/WINPAE. A few days ago I started UV and played through the Coral Sea scenario a couple of times to get my feet wet before jumping into WITPAE.

In the UV CS scenario I was able to get som supply runs going with c-47s and a few TFs that I created. I was even able to transport troops to shore up a base with aviation support. After completing the scenario I felt comfortable enough to start the WITPAE CS scenario.

Right off the bat I noticed I didn't have any c-47s or any extra AKs/AO/APs to transport supplies/troops/fuel. I was able to take my two carriers and pretty much demolish the IJ AKs and APs trying to take GG I then stayed clear of the IJ CVs and won a decisive victory in no time at all. I didn't have to worry about supplies fuel oil or AC losses. It seemed a LOT easier than the UV scenario.

What would you guys recommend for my next scenario? - I do not have time for a campaign.

I'd play every scenario, from both sides. If you just finished Coral Sea as the allies, go back and play it as Japan. The scenarios are for learning the game. And in my opinion each scenario has something different to teach you. If you want to properly learn the game, play them all.

And after that, play Guadalcanal, the Aleutians, or the Marianas scenarios.

Quick question. From my UV days I have been doing the following:
Level bombers set to 1000ft on bombing runs.
Fighter Cap/sweeps set to 8000ft
Dive bombers set to 5000ft for bombing.
All AC are set to 3000ft when I want them to naval search.
All AC are set to 1000ft when ASW.

Does this look about right?

My preferences:

heavies Libs and Forts: 9,ooo-17,ooo depending on defenses.
DBs: 13,ooo-15,ooo depending on mood
TBs: 6,ooo-8,ooo also depending on mood
Sweeps: depends on house rules. I use highest 2nd best maneuver band or as high as they'll fly if that's what your opponent is doing.
Mediums: B26, B25 I like 8,ooo' RAF I like 6,ooo' that's just personal.
FBs: I'm still experimenting and would be curious what others do. I use 1,ooo' most of the time

Uh no

Flying plane that low 100 feet causes them to take additioanl damage.

For WitP I use the following

Sweeps - the highest alitude possible (if not playing with any house rules to limit it)
Level bombers between 6-12K so as not to get hit with lower level AA fire.
Dive Bombers - 12K if set too low they will just level bomb and not dive bomb
Torpedo - 6K same reason as the LBs

Patrol
Naval - around 8K
ASW - around 6K

Other here may provide different answers as this is a very common topic and everyone has their viewpoint

Altitude bands I use for WITP (japs):

Fighters: 2nd best mvr rating by house rules or somewhere up
Dive bombers: 10-15k for dive bombing, other altitudes they are just glide bombing (lower accuracy)
Torpedo bombers: 10-15k to coordinate with DBs and escorts, they would drop to 200ft for the release anyway
Level bombers: 6k against no or light flak, 9-12k+ to avoid 40mm AA bofors :)
Naval search: 6k
ASW: 2-6k

For allies I adjust level bombers altitude to avoid 25mm AA gun fire, and keep heavy bombers in 10-15k usually ...

After you play the Japanese in Coral Sea (as per Steve's advise), depending upon you time availability, I would do the Guadalcanal scenario, as it is well balanced. Here too I would do both sides. Hal
