Ok so i started a new game as the Japs to get reorganized and maybe set the difficulty level a little lower..... very hard was just a little too much. So its my first four days into the game and i have already waxed the Enterprise and the lexington. The kb caught the Enterprise TF south of Johnston island and sunk her with 9 bomb hits from my kate bombers, Then two days later lady lex shows up south of wake and my nells put two fish into her and ignite her ammo storage comparments. I assume both are pretty much dead. Is this normal for the A.I to be so stupido so early in the game... its only december 12th.

P.S. John if you are reading this send me a pm. My email has gone on the fritz.

ai is normally a weak substitute for a skilled human opponent

however remember 2 details:

1) you know the start locations of the allied carriers, hence why enterprise was sunk

2) allies historically conducted the "early carrier raids" (were desperately trying to get their carriers
sunk but somehow japanese torpedo LBA was disorganized at those critical moments) so lexington sunk is not completely absurd

recommend to play a bit against the AI to learn the mechanics of AE

or if possible, find an equally inexperienced opponent and both can learn as you go

I was not expecting the run on the Enterprise at all actually. I was more going for the Indianapolis and then a nice sail home

The AI is never going to be as challenging as a human opponent. I have a game going against the Allied AI where is is October 1942, and I've yet to see a US carrier. They seem to prefer to spend the war hiding in West Coast ports.

EXACTLY! You were making use of information about which in real life your counter-parts had NO KNOWLEDGE AT ALL! The AI is a weak opponent to start with..., so "cheating it" is not going to make your game experience any stronger. You should sail KB straight home after PH (as done historically) before commencing any additional ops.

I strongly recommend playing one of the Ironman scenarios if you are playing solitaire.

There are several versions of Ironman scenarios for both sides with increasing degrees of boosting to the AI side.

Play on hard or very hard and play with one hand tied behind your back, always prepared to redo a turn to give the AI a mulligan and undo the disasters it gets itself into.

Yeah, don't worry. Sometime soon the AI will try to run them through the Marianas on a "follow" mission for a TF that started in the IO, while the CVs started at Pearl or San Francisco.

Oh, and they'll be light on escorts. A CA, CLAA, and 4 DDs maybe.

Japanese torpedo LBA was chronically disorganized. It performed exceptionally one morning on 10 Dec 41, against no opposition in the air, and poorly on nearly every other occasion.

Thanks for the tip!

They'd better hurry...

And also in a certain way "cheating" since any military will get an hearing from politicians and people for doing "nothing".

Yeah that is what irks me about the AI more. There wasn't any way to put on code that a 5000 men invasion force gets at least a battleship, crusier, carrier protecting it?
A relation between invasion ground force level and ship level.

I wish for it also. Sick of turning around division-level invasion fleets because they have no escorts to speak of - a simple IJN CL/DD fleet would drown them all.
