So far everything is pretty good and i enjoy how easy it is to get the micromanaging of flight groups out of the way to think about a bigger overall strategy

but i am just having a problem getting of the plot course option - it says i can click F3 or click on 'plot course' to finish however neither the F3 button stops the course plotting and the 'plot course' button - where is that? if it is the option in the right click menu -, i unfortunately cannot access this while stuck in the plot course mode.

also how do i delete course way points?

here is the ensuing madness - i like that the pilots let me know i am plotting beyond their fuel range

Hello,

You can also end the plotting action by pressing "Esc".

Thanks!

To delete a course waypoint, select it and press the DELETE key.

Also.. if your pilot is ignoring your course orders, you can uncheck the "Automatic Evasion" box on the unit's ROE window. That will keep the AI from interrupting your orders, and it may occasionally do that even if it's not currently dodging a weapon fired at it (have yet to confirm this). Just be sure to turn it back on if you're not babysitting them.

thank you i will try these out - though does this mean the F3 key is broken - at least for me? I thought it was working at first but then it was all to no avail.

Okay, the f3 option was working this time and i could plot courses. Unfortunately the game did crash - froze up and a not responding message. Restarted and played as normal.
These are a few little niggles.

On the tutorial mission for air ops, how do i create a situation for an alpha strike? it takes so long for each of the different aircraft groups to get into the air that my tomcats and corsairs are all getting shot down while others are still taxing to runway - should i launch ECM aircraft first?

Thanks! Keep in mind that if you do encounter a crash/freeze, you can restart the game (if it's a freeze you'll have to kill the Command.exe process from the Task Manager first) and resume from where you left off, using the autosave.scen file.

Guys,

I too have had trouble with the waypoints - my map looked similiar to the one at the start of this thread.

The delete key doesn't always work for me - probably me doing something wrong.

Reading the following threads should i be cancelling the waypoint editor (F3) and then selecting the waypoint and pressing delete?

What would be really helpful is a right-click menu option to delete waypoint - no matter if the waypoint editor is on or off.

Select your unit(s). Hit F3, click on the spots you want your units to travel to. Hit escape.

To select a waypoint, select the unit then click on one of its waypoints. The waypoint will be highlighted in yellow. You can now move the waypoint by click-dragging, or delete the waypoint by hitting 'Delete'.

It seems that you can insert waypoints by clicking on the line between waypoints.

There may be more/different ways of doing these steps, but this is what I've observed while doing the tutorials.

One thing is to make the waypoint squares bigger. I have a hard time hitting them.

So the editor (f3) is just for adding waypoints

Also, the game is picky about focus. If you have the message log in a separate window, for instance, and you go to that window to scroll the messages, hitting things like F3 won't work because focus has shifted to the message window. You need to click on the main game window to re-focus the game there, so keyboard commands will actually work. This may happen with other windows too, I'm not sure.

I've also had some flaky behavior with plotting; there are so many things interacting here (missions, evasion, attacks, plotting) that sometimes it's obscure why a unit does what it does.

I like how unobtrusive they are, and can still click them just fine.

I like them how they are with one exception. I'd like each waypoint to be its' own, without a 2nd 'spawn' waypoint associated with it. This could even be a game preference.

I feel the frustration--until I discovered the "esc" key I was cussin'

The trouble arose not when I was assigning way points ("finger" mouse pointer) but when I got into editing them (cross hair pointer). F3 would not take me out of edit mode and--as far as I can tell--esc is the only reliable way to back out.

this is very wonky for me.

i sometimes have to click 2 or 3 times on the point to select it.
when i delete it, the change does not show until i zoom in and out.

I have trouble deleting way points. I press delete and it is still there. But when I change zoom level (map refresh) it disappears
