I really want to get this, but I'm afraid that with no tutorial or campaign (and I'm guessing the manual isn't ready), I don't want to end up with another Kerbal Space Program, where I boot it up, stare at it in befuddlement for a couple of minutes, and then shut it down again

Dont worry, I been playing 3h now and I restarted once cause of missmanagement. No money left. Second time I do know how to play but Im improving every turn.
And its fun.

tgb - regarding Kerbal, there many excellent tutorials on YouTube. Check out Scott Manley's videos. He has a bunch, and some very good tutorials. There are quite a few other tutorials by others, but Manley's are considered some of the best.

I am still learning that game myself, but the videos have helped immensely. It is a wonderful game. I hope you spend some more time with it. They just released an update that starts to add the storyline campaign mode. It's definitely starting to shape up.

It's actually pretty simple once you play a few turns. I'll probably make a video on it in the next day or so but it's really not complicated and easy to get into.

I have just started an AAR and how you can see is not difficult to play it, easy and intuitive.
Will be difficult to choice the right research but of course we play for this reason

I can't find a manual in the programme.

Has anybody else located a basic manual for the game?

The document in the manuals folder titled 'manual EBook' is another catalogue

No manual yet, but is not necessary at this point.
