While there are a lot of great AAR's out there, I think many of us would like to see the "highlight reel" of epic achievements in PBEM games...

So along those lines, has anyone ever done the following in a PBEM game (not against AI, just PBEM), and perhaps have the screenshot to prove it?

- wiped out the Russians and captured Vladivostok?
- captured Tokyo?
- captured Pearl Harbor (reminder, in a PBEM game)?
- kept the KB alive into 1945?
- captured all of China as either the Japanese or the Allies?
- captured all of Australia (or at least Perth, Melbourne & Sydney)?
- captured Karachi?
- sunk every Japanese ship from DD up?
- destroyed an American TF taskforce in 1944-1945 with Kamikazes?

And raise your hand if you ever...

- lost the KB in early 1942 (yes, ahem, confess I did that once, lost the shameful screenshot)
- failed to capture Manila or Singapore in 1942
- Lost Hawaii
- Lost Tokyo

Any other similarly epic PBEM achievements I didn't list you can share with a screenshot would be appreciated as well :)

Lastly, is it possible to print out an AAR, complete with screenshots, without having to click and print on each individual web page? Would make for nice airport reading :)

I don't play PBEM, so I can't make any claims. However another achievement for the list would be something I remember one of the top Japanese players tried with WitP in an AAR which is to capture San Francisco. He played an experimental game PBEM in which he tried to do just that. It was interesting to watch. He pretty much sacrificed everything in every other theater to try and do it, but in the end he failed. If I remember right he invaded Vancouver, BC and marched down the coast. The Allies finally stopped him cold in Northern California. Even the weak 1941/early 42 US forces were enough to stop him, though he did a lot of damage along the way.

What really killed him was logistics, all the merchant ships he could muster just weren't enough to keep his forces adequately supplied in North America. The Can/Am forces had plentiful and short supply lines, so while the Japanese forces were always a quart low on supply, the Allies always had more than they needed.

This was with the old game. AE would probably be a bit different, but it would probably be even tougher now.

Bill

last several years mainly have done custom mods in PBEM. Lost Hawaii and Oz and NZ and China as allies in certain mods where the empire is considerably more powerful. Lost KB in summer 42 to big blunder. and lost 6 allied CV's the same way in 42. Also have swept the empire from the seas in the 'big one' where empire is bulked up.

I certainly have had my mix of agony and glory - but I deserved 100% of the agony I have received to be sure.

I have kept the KB alive into '45, and all the BB's too in a PBEM, but it is stock WITP not WITP-AE.

Currently Feb '45, and I am getting taken apart limb-by-limb by Allied air.

We had a reverse Midway in late '42, and there have been no appreciable naval battles since -- partly because I won't venture in under the Allied air umbrella, and my opponent won't venture out.

My opponent (obvert) has most of the KB intact in 45. He lost 4 CVs, 3 CVLs and 3 CVEs though.

-Capture China as the Japanese isn´t much of an achievement. Most do that these days.
-I think PzB captured all of India in a game. Can´t remember if it was AE or WITP? To my knowledge he is the only one who has done that? Radar almost did in his game vs GJ but came out short of Karachi.
-I think someone did some extensive testing on attacking PH and found out it was impossible. Might remember that one wrong though.

I´ll raise my hand to losing almost the entire USN in late 42/early 43 though. Some CAs avoided the carnage and the PH BBs still in the yard. But thats about it. Ouch.

Hardly a player but a in-game unit's achievement, a sub of mine managed to launch 12 torps on USN CVs and 4 more on DDs in a single night phase, sinking at least a CV, and escaped without a scratch.

Edit: I also attacked PH for 3 days and failed to sink a single.ship. :(

Does failing to capture Rangoon count? Then I'm guilty (in original WitP, see link in my sig)...

I lost every single AK I had in my first PBEM as allies. Plus my carriers. I was determined to play on after my disastrous carrier fiasco. It seemed only fair to my opponent, and I didn’t want to “wimp out” as I have heard of so many times. But when the last AK went down, and PH was starving, I had to concede my total incompetence.

In my first PBEM I had no idea what I was doing and sailed my entire KB in early 42 all of the way to Tahiti and beyond to engage the US fleet. After my opponent had to stop due to health issues he sent the password and there were literally hundreds of ships moving along the map edge within a day's sail of the KB and the turn the game quit I had sent a CS cruiser TF to check it out.

I shudder now to think of the fuel used and vulnerability achieved by putting the KB way out there.

My opp in a current PBEM has taken all of China as the Japanese: sometime or other in mid-late '42. The writing was on the wall considerably earlier though. You can read all about it in his AAR: "Perfection of a Sort". It was a Scenario 2 so maybe it is not what the poster had in mind but Francois deserves some kudos anyways. It may prove to be the road to nowhere though...it seems he's moved most of the winners in China to Burma now (Jan 43) but so far I'm holding OK along the Indian Frontier.

I consider getting through another turn as Japan without the urge to uninstall an epic achievement.

Seriously though, my epic moment was catching an Allied invasion force at Lunga with KB and watching the might of Imperial Japan attack some PT Boats at Ndeni. Epic fail.

In my worst showing ever as Japan, I lost 5 CVs, 1 CVL, & 1 CVE in January 1942!!! Miserable luck in two CV battles has shattered the IJN. I am still trucking on....

Then faked out the whole board by counter invading the Kuriles and Hokkaido. Don't sell yourself short, GJ!

Mogami!

I met Mogami about 8 years ago and have seen him off and on since. I just saw that he finally retired from the military. I have a phone number and will try to contact him later. I'd love to get him back here. Good guy!

Was this a mod in which the Dutch got Do-217s with remote controlled missiles?

It's late Jan, 42 as Japan, and I'm out 2 CV's and 2 CVE's. I wonder if this makes the grade?

In 2004, I was deployed and learning WitP in isolation. I managed to lose all of 6 CVs in KB in Feb 42 off the coast of Java while attempting to invade that infernal place. Against AI too.

"Sonny II" and I managed to complete WITP-AE twice PBEM. Of course we were both retired duffers without many distractions. He passed away a year ago..., or we'd probably have a third one going.

In PBEMs I've sunk the entire KB (all six CVs) twice in April '42 (against the same player) using 4 CVs and once in May using 5 CVs (agains wyrmm). I did not lose one CV in any of them. The AAR for the last one still exists.

these are great, keep 'em coming. I will say that the honesty of the board is appreciated too-- there are just as many "confessions" here as achievements :)

I confess I was lucky each time, the weather was on my side. Storms over my forces and not over his. I think that happened all three times.

edit: Also being careful about search patterns. In each case I could see him coming a day or two in advance but he couldn't see me because he had no search planes where I was. The first two times the battle occurred a little south of Port Moresby and the third occurred just off of La Foa in New Caledonia. That time I was also lucky because I guessed right, I didn't know if he would come down to the west of the island or east. I guessed west and was two hexes away from him when the sun rose.

One more thing. Each time I had each CV in its own TF. He might find one or two but be unaware of the rest.
