**************May 30, 1943(c)************ Formosa/Horycrappo-jima: Unloading was done for now at Karenko so we sent Massachusetts to bombard Takao and the CL/DD force at Karenko to Okinawa to try to intercept the transports suspected to be inbound. More fighters to Horycrappo-jima to cover Lee's force operating near Okinawa. At night, Kongo was spotted inbound about 80 NE of Taihoku. She may have paid a visit to Karenko. If she did, she missed the PT boats. Tautog attacked Kongo in shallow water and got flattened. Sub attack near Taihoku at 89,62 Japanese Ships BB Kongo DD Yudachi DD Kisaragi Allied Ships SS Tautog, hits 5, heavy damage USS Grouper makes a run at her as well but is damaged by a DD named after a feminine hygiene product. Perhaps the ASW measures slowed down the Kongo convoy. Too bad, a Kongo vs Massachusetts battle would have been interesting.
