Over the weekend I noticed a strange new snafu when loading the SUDG program. I edited the start-up icon so that it would go straight to the SUDG.exe file rather than that annoying menu. For the first week or more that was working just fine as the game launched rather quickly and the opening credits and video played normally. Now every time I go into the game for the first time after turning on my computer the game is now taking forever to load up, the credits take way too long and the opening video is really bad as it processes the video in spurts. When I exit the game it is now trying to bring up that dog gone menu I thought I had worked around and thus it slows my escape from the program. The escape key isn't working well either at getting out of the new loading and exiting snafus. This is really strange since it was working fine for the first week or more and now it's changed when I didn't change anything myself.

I sure wish that new games would include an option to opt out of the opening and closing credits the way some of the older games used to have that option. After seeing the opening videos and credits a few times I'm tired of them and all I want is to get into and out of my games quickly. Please add in an option so we can opt out of the opening credits and video and if we're going straight to the SUDG.exe file we don't ever want to see the menu.

First off, kill the intro movies. Either delete them or rename them.

Second--my installation came with two icons--one to start with the menu, one to start the game directly. Still, you could create an icon yourself if you wanted to--they're fairly straightforward, and you can't really affect the game's performance by screwing one up.

Have you installed anything else on your system in the past couple of days? Something may be running resident, or it may have fubar-ed your directx.

Star Game Shortcut:

"C:\Program Files\Starships Unlimited Divided Galaxies\SUDG.exe"

Star Game Menu:

"C:\Program Files\Starships Unlimited Divided Galaxies\start.exe"

Are you sure that your not getting an "Autorun" of your CD-ROM drive and completing with a manual launching of the game possibly?

My autorun pops up the Game Menu very slowly and I have a 1.4 gHz CPU and a 40x Cd-Rom drive. I have had two instances of the game loading once and it exactly matches what you're describing. Does any other game do that when loading?

dragoniv brings up a good point about whether you've installed anything else since you made your change.

Maxfreeboard,
I guess I should have mentioned that I didn't install anything else since installing this SUDG game, this new phenomenom is happening all by itself. I also had no trouble editing the old icon to run the SUDG.exe file instead of the start one.

I did have the program load the music files onto my harddrive. Now I am seeing that little dog gone autorun from the cd working. I sure wish the thing would just play dead the way it's supposed to.

It's weird that for about a week the program loaded fine and exited fine without invoking that dreaded autorun. I also haven't taken the CD out of the drive since I installed the game so it's not a case of me doing something to restart that autorun madness.

I just hope Andrew reads this and does something to give us an option to opt out of watching the opening videos and credits and does something to make that autorun stay inactive.

ooooh, you have autorun enabled? owwww. turn that baby off! ;) That's probably why I'm not seeing this issue--I turned off evil autorun the day MS invented it.
