Hi,

Before the end of the year I may attempt my first AE PBEM. Planning on doing the Japanese with a buddy and splitting IJA / IJN duties. I'm sure we will write many memorandums of understanding.

So provided we can find an opponent, I would do my work first then send to my friend so he can do his stuff then one of us sends the required files to our opponent.

Is it correct that only of us (the Japanese team) can watch the replay while the one who enters orders second may only see the combat report? Is it possible for both of us to get the Allied file, watch the replay then one of us enters orders and sends it to the other so they can finish up?

I saw a post about the replays don't always generate the same results. Is that the only issue?

I've done one turn per day in WiTP and would like one per day in AE, but it is a long process. Do two day turns work out well in PBEM, and is it possible to switch back and forth between length of turn during a PBEM game? I doubt it, but I know when I am running scenarios vs the AI I have that freedom.

Thanks for the time.

I believe that in a PBEM you can both run the turn and get the same results. It is only when playing against the AI that you would/could get different results.

That's correct. You would both need to receive the file from the Allied player (or one of you forwards the email), then you both load the save file (say slot 12) and it would run the same replay for both of you.

My 2 cents on 2 day turns...

As an AFB I like two day turns. Played a couple of AI w/2 day, last one out to early 45. Two PBEMs w/2 days aborted first in late 42 (scen 2, my worthy JFB opponent kicked my AFB butt), we're in our second game out to 3/43 (scen 1).

Two days does move the game along nicely (our current 3/43 game started 20 Jan 2013). Especially with multiple players (I've not tried) I would think you would want to make up the extra coordination time with longer turn cycles...or grow very old playing one game.

I also like the additional FOW 2 days add...you have to plan a bit a head and commit yourself. I believe a 2 day cycle makes AE a better game, allowing a little less micro/god view management.

Kevin

[edit]..no idea if you can switch from 1 to 2 or 2 to 1 in PBEM...never attempted. Happy w/2.

+1

Even today there is no such thing as the "god's eye view and resultant level of control"

2 day turns rule ......

All commanders are faced with giving up a degree of control which 1 day turns mask .....

I play the Japanese exclusively - have never played from the allied side. I am currently in a PBeM with 2 day turns and its a big change. My game is only in May of 42 and I'm still learning the 2 day turn issues and how to cope with it. The biggest problem I've had with 2day turns is everything is a lot slower - I haven't take Soerbaja or even Batavia yet. Also, you churn through resources / oil faster - well not really faster but you need to get your convoys setup and running from day 1 - not like you do in 1day turns where you have plenty of time... I didn't do this and have paid for it with lack of LI and HI production. On the good side, we are in May 42 already and time flies by in game. Not sure what my overall opinion on 2day turns is, but it is a change from normal 1 day turns.

You can ready more about my game in my AAR... Co-Prosperity Sphere or Bust

Is it possible to switch back and forth? Can the two players agree to have one day turns for 30 days, and then two day turns for the next 90, and so on?

Nope. That only works vs the AI.

A nice thing about 2-day turns: you stand down an air group, and 2 days later it's nicely refreshed and ready to go.

Naval ops can get a little wooly. More than once, I or my opponent would send a TF into indian country, and after the first day realize there's too many indians for this TF. With one-day turns, no problem, turn the TF around. But with 2-day turns, no such luck.

I swear by them. Of course it causes issues like the one mentioned above but it cuts both ways. Having the right TF settings can help negate that problem to a degree.
