Apologies if this has been discussed. It occurred to me that everywhere on the globe the weather is "no rain, clear, 25 C temp, and sea state of 0". That would be something if we had weather around the globe. That might be too much though.

I had asked this very question some days back, and was informed it is in the works.

You can edit the weather and customize a number of variables (temperature, cloud cover, rain percentage, sea state & wind etc.) but only temperature varies depending on the location; all the other variables are applied globally.

We have something better in the works.

Very strong wind & sea state.

i am wondering if we might get to see varying weather patterns and sea state changes within a scenario. A moving rain/cloud map would be great in even a rudimentary form

sorry to focus on this but perhaps i am not clear on something - is it possible to air ops to be affected by weather in the game at present or is that not yet implemented - as it seems always a grayed out box?
thanks

I believe Sunburn has said in some other posts that weather (including night) was in the works, to affect also aircraft, which will be interesting especially in the Cold War scenarios as a lot of aircraft were still day only, good weather aircraft. The depth that will be there when that happens will be really awesome, though I am also guessing someone somewhere will complain about not being able to fly, so it will probably end up as an option I am guessing rather than a strict part of the game... just my observation though.

given what you mentioned though, it sounds a definite must - even if it is an option at the game start - which i presume it will be being that the box is there ready for it to be implemented - ready and waiting

I look forward trying to launch my day fighters in the middle of the night/in storm and getting a "launch not possible, no all weather aircraft" sign instead :)

Weather works allready in the sense that it makes visual spotting next to impossible.

well if its optional. but of course things like hurricane strength storms should have some effects -is that true that vis is currently effected by weather - that is good, i wasnt sure if that was the case yet. Does weather affect weapons at all - it must affect the paths and or effectiveness of missiles somewhere along the 60+ years modelled

Holy Smokes! This game is already hard enough to play and now you want to install weather too? I understand the need for realism but that will just throw in another set of variables to consider! We ex-Coast Guardsmen never had to worry about such things. Just how far we were out from shore so we could be sure to get back in time for Liberty! 8-D

Lol, well it ldoes look like it will be optional in future, but yeah the game is already pretty awesome and tough as. Just played khark island raid last night, simple fun and totally lost to the iranian tigers, phantoms and ground aa.

That game was played with clear skies, but i wonder perhaps my Fitters may have gotten closer to the oil facilities if i had some cloud cover may be, so weather could work for the player also.

But as i said this is such a great fun game and verx good with the patches now up to 460

Air ops are not effected by weather, but combat is, IIRC. I think visibility, targeting, etc. is impact by weather.

Yeah, Wood but how would the weather be simulated in the game? Little grey splotches appear out of nowhere to simulate clouds and your ships start moving about erratically to indicate high seas? I'm curious technologically, but not looking forward to it with all the "fog" of war that has already been included. In Canary Cage, I have an Orion overhead and a Seahawk within a few miles on a skunk and yet there is no contact information on him whatsoever. Perhaps it's the mysterious 'Flying Dutchman' of ancient lore? 8-D

I think you would have to use the datablock. I am sure that is one of the reasons it is not implemented yet. Harpoon use to have little markers for sea state and cloud.

Yeah I remember that and the little "sunshine thingy" that floated around the screen indicating a weather problem?

Well, now that I'm retired, I've given myself a year to learn this game and the more complexity added and more scenarios presented should bring me many future hours of frustration and aggravation, just as Harpoon did! Ain't it great?

if targeting and visibility are effectd by weather already then ,more realistic weather would just mean areas where this may be more or less an issue. again this could be optional so you wouldnt be forced to have to have it in the game. it could be up to the scenario designer how the weather appears, though its not hard to find info on general weather patterns - something like this may also effect satellite intelligence?
of course i dont expect this to be any simple implementation, but i hope it is eventually built on.

Does anyone know if different sea states affect the performance of hull designs differently in Command? For example the Burke class is reported to be able to maintain 25+ knots in up to moderately heavy seas (which can adversely affect even Ticos)

We'll all need Kray 2's in our basements in order to play CMANO...
I don't think a complex weather model is required. Or, if it's decided by the devs to implement such a model, make it optional, simply "on" or "off" set by the player, regardless of what the scenario designer's intent was.

Maybe not a complex model but just a "don't launch" flag for certain aircraft and weapons if the weather is too bad.
Also maybe depending on the platform: I have no real idea but I suppose a missile cruiser like USS Albany or Long Beach could launch its missiles in a lot heavier seas than a guided missile destroyer, for example.
If your ship pitches and rolls like crazy you might have trouble keeping the illuminating radar on target or to even prevent the launcher from launching the missile into a wave.

Just as long there are enable/disable options, I'm ok with anything :)

Lol,
Yes i wonder currently what effect does hurricane level sea state which is a description in the game have on ships in all? What kind of sea state is hurricane level? Perfect Storm level? There are youtube videos of ships trying navigate very violent seas.

But yes it may not need to be complex at all , i admit that if more detailed weather was in the game, it would then beget more detail, ie weather forecast systems, which have changed over the past 50 years no doubt
Perhaps weather could just be added as something you can edit more in the scenario editor, like being a type of event, which then could even have probability whether it occurs. As you can set events to occur at certain times. Actually a simple approach could be to allow the current weather sea state options to be available to change in the event editor also.

Perhaps using rp's to designate weather zones ( best as a separate side) one could even make a bermuda triangle area
