Second post :) for a question about netplay. After watching the videos, reading some tutorials I tried to go through the netplay interface to have a look. Unfortunately I did not get much far ! after having filled the form the system tried to connect to the database and then things went wrong. I provide you the screenshots (sorry interface is in French, if you need a translation let me know).
The summarize the netplay seems to be looking for a email exchange programme (if i understand correctly) which I do not have on my computer as we are only using gmail. Some time after the netplay issue I have the MWIF exe error message appearing (without having done anything in between) and the inability to send the report message.
let you find out if I'm doing something wrong (I doubt as I'm barely doing anything) or if there is a know/unknown issue.
Cheers (don't worry maturity is normal for any project of this size)

Systems tell me I can only upload 1 image per post, will provide further screenshots after

My understanding is that Emailing bug reports requires an actual email client. So if you use GMail or another web based service, a client is needed as well. During testing I have used Mozilla Thunderbird with Gmail which seems to work pretty well.

I finally installed mozilla thunderbird to check if this solve part of the issue. Indeed I could at last send the bug reports (you should have received a couple from me sorry)
the issue with the database connection is still there and this cause the MWIF crash window to open. If I select keep MWIF open i can keep on doing what I was doing (looking at the empty netplay window haha although I see some other players logged in).
thanks for the help I have no router, the default windows firewall and no clue about UDP port status ? I read somewhere that for netplay there is no need to configure the firewall (don't ask me why) ?
anyone knows precisely which port should be opened and how to check ?

None of this should be necessary. If you have a software (non-windows) firewall, try disabling it.
You are aware Netplay is disabled currently?

Just checked and I get the same error. If netplay is disabled it would be nice to mention it in the error message. The error reads as if there is a subjective connection problem.
I had an issue while installing the 1.0.3 patch (some background wif programme running and the installer told me he could not update one of the file) after the end of the update my game was still in 1.0.2 but update keep telling me i had the last version. I then uninstalled WIF and installed again (after killing all running process associated).
i have now a brand new installation and version 1.0.3 and still the netplay issue. A pity for such a game....
guys I appreciate your support but please read the thread before answering anything.

so as I said I'm upgraded in 1.0.3 and still unable to connect to opponent database. does anyone else suffer the same issue ? or has anyone else suffered the same issue and for whom it's now working with 1.0.3 ?

I don't know if it helps but i saw this error message
I can't reproduce this.
The warning message simply means that there are no entries in the Seeking Opponents table. That's also obvious because the table as shown is empty. It is also confirmed because of the other message about being unable to access the Seeking Opponents database.
But why you, and others, are unable to access the database is a mystery. I am able to access it from two different computers (with different serial numbers). I also am able to access it using both my development version and my exact copy of version 1.0.3 that customers are running.

It's time to gather some more data:
I If you do not have this problem, please post a reply here. That will let me know if the trouble is universal or just happening for some players.
II If you do have this problem: 1 - Have you ever been able to connect to the Seeking Opponents database? Then I can judge if this was caused by Update changes. 2 - Please start a new game, or restore a saved game, and use the Help drop down menu for About the program to confirm that you are running version 1.0.3. Just to reassure my troubled mind. 3 - What operating system are you running? 4 - Does anyone have any other ideas?
I'll have the Matrix folks make some more tests using their systems.

Steve,
Let me know if you want to do a gotomtg to review my machine. I have an account. randerson at iservices dot ca
I checked the drop down menu and am running 1.03
Thank you for the offer, but that's outside my area of expertise. However, someone from Matrix technical support may take you up on your offer if they can't figure this out.
I registered for net play 2 days ago and had no issues,I saw the player database and figured everything was good.
Now I can see the player database but after a short time with it up I get an error. This error then forces me to log in again. Also when I try to respond to another players posts, I type a reply and then hit seeking opponent reply and I get another error.
This is all with version 1.03, also its not documenting the bug reports because my report is still dated November 14th.
EDIT: OH forget what's below, it's actually the right port, was looking wrong....that's what I deserve for trying to act smart.
I don't know how netplay forum works but I looked a bit at what is seems to do (on the network)...are you sure you are connecting to the right port for the player database. I'm just guessing from what I see from the network packets where it looks like MWIF.EXE tries to connect to a server (after requesting a list of servers from 'games_exhange') and the ports returned there are different then what MWIF tries to connect to. Dunno...maybe it helps, I'm probably all wrong.
