21sec, I will answer your questions when I get home this afternoon. We have been busy with code for the 2.02 update and it has put me behind with the Modding Guides. Thanks for your patience.

Well here's to both of our afternoons going by rather quickly.

Hi guys, congratulations for this amazing game! This is the one I was searching for. Flashpoint Red Storm is only the beguining for a serie of future releases using its powerful engine.

About wishes... I would love a random map generator. Think it can be a good addition for a non-scripted AI. Can be cool for training and unexpected combat situations, not to mention many people non-addicted to historical scenarios would feel attracted to our game.

Thanks!

Jafele, are you looking for more maps (we have over 25 and more on the way) or a random battle maker system?

I´m looking for a random battle maker system using random maps, some computer games use this system (ie Combat MissionX1 or Advanced Tactics Gold).

A pair ideas to the editor.

1-an option to "copy-paste" parts of the OOB, i find a little frustrating create again the same add-hoc formation when a simple "duplicate unit" solve this, the idea is if you have the "HQ 1st btl" you right click on the OOB and select "duplicate" and appear "HQ 2nd btl"... maybe the problem is in names... even if only duplicate the unit with generic names is enough.

2-to have easier edit units... is possible edit them in OOB??? i refer right click over the OOB name and here the edit optios for name, values...

And a little question about IA... i am working in a scen, i want that AI when play with one of the sides do it only defensive, not moving all the time units and missing the dug-in bonus... maybe is possible for units add something like fix units but with a time limit??? i explain better, i think in assignate the "defend" order to an unit with a time limit (lets see 60 minutes) when the unit has this try dont move from initial position, defend until enemy force it retreat or when other units in the formation retreat.

Now is hard create scens where you want the defenders be fixed in certain map positions.

Thanks.

Hexagon the AI doesn't work well in defense yet..they are aware of it.

I notice it... when you try create a more "static" fight AI works as mentos in a coca-cola pool

Game is more orientated to elastic defense or meetings but well, is a question of set this scens as human VS human or human as defender.

Hexagon,
1. You can get to the units info and settings in the scenario editor by right clicking and selecting the edit unit val ues option at the top of the menu.
2. In that menu, you can select to make a unit inactive. This will fix the unit in place and it will not move until engaged. That should help your defensive setup.

Yes, i notice this, i use it to edit the off-map arty for example but i refer to edit directly in the OOB tree to minimize the number of movements to do it, specially when is a big tree.

Ummm i am going to try use this, expect have a 1.0 version in a few days and i try test it more.

Thanks.

A pair of suggestion more.

1-now you can fix an unit in a place until is attacked well, i think if is possible add a timer like the one for reinforces, i refer if you want give in scen editor a time to be fixed an unit to be released even when is not attacked.

2-alternative reinfocerment arrive positions, now you cant give to player the option to receive reinforcements where he really needs them, i think in Tiller games where you have strategic decisions to select where receive reinforcements, here select one of them means receive more or less troops and receive them earlier or late... i think at least give in editor the option to give alternative deployment areas for reinforces is a good idea and in the battle in certain turn that you select in editor ask player WHERE want the reinforces.

Thanks.

PD: i need ask this again, any chance to see especific tanks with anti-mines equipment??? i refer to have in a soviet company for example some tanks with these equipment to reduce the impact of minefields... less casualties by mines for example.

Hexagon,

Take your scenario building issues to the Scenario School. That's what it's for. This thread is for things you guys want to see added to, or changed in the game.

Thanks.

Good Hunting.

Well, both are things i want see, a way to fix units not only until enemy appear, fix them a certain time (to prevent have fixed forever some units) and a way to give alternative arriving positions for reinforcements... you set this things in scen editor but are features.

Ummm how about a pause option in the turn resolution??? with the actual "Tactical ops centre diary" is hard follow the battle, maybe here improve diary to is interesting, add some colour in the diary, i think red text when there is a casualty, blue for arty attacks... and maybe something to separate the messages by "turns", i refer if a turn has 20 minutes appear in diary something like

--------------1340 1st NATO turn----------------
13:41 X unit claims 1 T-64B in hex 1287
13:42 New Order: Y unit - screen in 1258
13:43 arty unit - suppression fire (1x) in hex 2122

to made more easy know in what moment of battle you are.

There are a couple suggestions for colors and more in-depth info in the diary in the features wish list. We will be working on getting those items we can fairly easily code into the game as we do updates. We are working more on the roadmap for future updates and once we have a more detailed plan we will let you guys know.

A Pause option would be desirable. Also, the ability to write the combat log/tactical diary to a file, perhaps with even more detail. The ability to display it more than a few lines at a time as well. Hell, make it fully interactive, so when it says a unit at hex XXXX is fired on, you can click on the XXXX and the map will center there. Stuff like that to make the information delivery in the game more fluid and useful. There is a lot of stuff going on, really, but sometimes the UI and display structure of the game doesn't make it easy to follow as well as it could.

You can already drag the splitter between the map and diary/subunits display and make it bigger. The game can be paused by the start/pause button at the top of the info panels. Color and more details may be easy to address in the near future. I'm not sure that hyperlinks are possible from the diary. I will check with Rob. A few people have also mentioned printing various items out. We'll have to look at that too down the road.

Ummm them you can stop with the start buttom... well, i need try it but i think add this option to a hotkey is good, you can define with what keyboard key you can stop battle, in my case when this feature is avaliable i try use space maybe is a habit i have from see videos in the PC.

EDIT: great, i test it and space works to stop action

'Ghost spotted units' - when you get a message that a HQ is located at grid 3215 or counterbattery fire on grid 2157 as well as recon spotted unit but lose LOS due to recon unit pulling back,
Would be nice to see a ghost marker (e.g. suspected HQ location via direction finding, or suspected arty location or 3x M1A1 tanks spotted here) along with time of spotting, would appear for the duration of the planning session but then disappear when you 'resolve' the current orders session.

A bonus (maybe in reduced waiting time) when Arty is given Direct Support orders to their own HQ units. In the game, this encourages the reality that artillery units usually support their own formation and it recreates that faster call-for-fire and approval process for organic units.

Thought i add wish list from FPG. Even though the system works well as is, I would like more tactical control to the units

CURRENT MOVEMENT DOCTRINE:

Do not allow enemy to come closer than x meters – This will tell the unit to keep the enemy at arm’s length, at a minimum distance as specified by you under Distance x meters is ____. The distance can be from 0 to 5000 meters in 500 meter increments.
Close to x meters and maintain distance – This will tell the unit to approach the enemy and remain at the distance as specified by you under Distance x meters is ____. The distance can be from 0 to 5000 meters in 500 meter increments.
CURRENT FIRE DOCTRINE:

Return fire if fired upon – This tells the unit to only fire on an enemy unit if they are in turn fired on first. If your unit is not spotted by the enemy, firing on them is a really quick way to get noticed. This command will make sure your unit does not give itself away unless forced to defend itself through enemy fire. The distance can be from 0 to 5000 meters in 500 meter increments.
Hold fire if fired upon – This tells the unit to not return fire under any circumstances. The distance can be from 0 to 5000 meters in 500 meter increments.
Open fire if enemy within x meters – This tells the unit to fire on an enemy unit if it falls within the range specified. If you do not want a unit to fire, reduce the range to 0 meters. The distance can be from 0 to 5000 meters in 500 meter increments.

Also, can the Tac OPS diary be color coded to show hits taken (red), enemy hits (grn),misc (blk), etc.

cheers

There is a current system for a unit to keep it's distance..but we can't change it. So the code is there.

I like this idea a lot. I think the designers could do a lot to help make the Tac Ops diary more useful, including unlocking it and letting me place it as a vertical window on the left side of the map or even completely taking the window off so I can put it on a second monitor.

As of now, the diary at the bottom takes too much eye movement when there's shooting and moving and flashing and all on the map. I think that color-coded entries would help.

Unlocking the diary/SU window would take some work to "unlock" but I've had similar thoughts. Color coding is a possibility down the road and would more than likely get rolled up with improved information type requests. Just to be honest, there are many other items in front of this but we have it on the list.

As for a FPG style SOP, with the new AI code I can see some additional SOP functionality down the road with the more dynamic waypoint/orders system, but I doubt it will be to that exact a level. We do want to have better ambush/hold fire logic and also withdrawal mechanics. There will be changes here in the future for sure.

I've got some Scenario Editor wishes:

Bulk rename/parameters facilty - this could look similar to the kills table in the TOC, with a unit's name and every parameter shown in tabular form. Have every cell editable so we don't have to keep clicking every unit just to change name or view it's stats.

Move around units in stacks- currently you can't, you have to select every unit singly to place them.

The ability for heavy arty (155mm or bigger) plus aircraft (1000lb or larger) to blow up bridges, would need a limit of number of strikes similar to ICM/mine give players some ability cut of forces or further delay river crossing assaults but not to constantly have the capability

Getting more forces per side is up on our list along with "neutral" units like civis.
