A few of my colonies have a negative opinion modifier due to particular races not wanting to be there (Shakturi, some Gizureans), but their population continues to grow.

What are my options? I can't specify any individual race in population policy, so if I resettled or didn't accept races not in my race family it would do the same to the friendly races living there as well.

Use the game editor, note down how many of each there are, increase the population of those you want to save, decrease the others to one million. Set policy to exterminate, wait a month. And edit it again.
Yes it's annoying.

Penal Colonies or trade it off to some of your allies or an enemy of your enemy :) Let them enjoy the negative effects and use your spies to incite a rebellion :D Much more fun; kinda like a Trojan Horse colony hehehe.

How do I trade a colony? I'm not seeing that option anywhere.

A few thoughts to help happiness in such cases:
1. Ensure tax is at 0%.
2. Ensure you build medical/recreation centres. Better to get a small base up quickly so those benefits come sooner rather than later, then upgrade the base to suit. Research medical/recreation technologies.
3. Development reduces unhappiness. Consider what you could do here. Ensure you have sources for Super Luxuries and other Luxuries.
4. Consider moving a Regional Capital near to the area where you have unrest.
5. Build Happiness Wonders.
6. Ensure Empire reputation is in good shape.

And of course ensure you have sufficient troops stationed to quell a rebellion. Don't move those troops until happiness is fixed.

Also keep in mind, some aliens just don't like you. Never expect a Boskara to be happy in a human empire, it isn't going to happen.

Till you wipe out the entire Boskaran civilisation. Then they don't care.

I always solve the insect problem with a can of industrial strength RAID. In other words, I don't care if they like me or not, they don't survive long enough to be a problem.

Oops! Ehm... mixed it up with the facilities e.g. space port. But then... perhaps we gonna have the option in 1.9.12? Sorry about this mate.

Less of a can of raid, and more of total subjugation of every planet they used to own. They don't die, they simply stop caring that you conquered and rule them once their civilisation cease to exist. You don't need to be the one that destroy it.

No, I'm not that nice. Exterminate policy.

Then it really doesn't matter if they like me or not, or if I conquer every last dustball they own. Depending on which species I'm playing my, the concquered aliens may be assimilated or simply wiped out.

But more to my point, if you aren't able to conquer their home wolrd, then the exterminate or resettle policies are your best options. If it is working as I understand it, the resettle option on the planet with the unwanted aliens while having 'Do Not Accept' on all others will have you transporting them to some other empire that will accept them. So that is an option as well, but in my case would just be postponing the inevitable.

I like the idea of resettling races only to conquer the planets they have resettled on, thus continuing the process. The life of insects in Shark7's unoverse is harsh indeed, doomed to extermination or be forever fleeing away.
