New math

The Oprah has reached the age of the coproliths.

Been meaning to comment on this for a while now, Cap'n. In horses, they're fecoliths per se.

We have fecoliths in human medicine as well. They are a cause of appendicitis but of very little archeological value.

Lt. Bering: <newly arrived charts in arms> Commander, these coordinates for Onnekotan-jima seem off to me. Do you want to take a look? 55 Deg 0' 3''N 166 Deg 16' 23'' E.......

This Lt. Bering chap-is he strait?

Do you mean honorable, trustworthy and fulfilling his fiduciary responsibility to the US taxpayers who are, after all, paying his luxurious salary...or do you mean not interested in spooning?

JJ has about 25K troops at Naha, a strong force but not insurmountable.

2 CW divisions are getting ready to land at Karenko and take Taihoku to build up the eventual level 9 base there but this will take a while.

With Horcrappo-jima up to level 2 it might now be possible to go for Okinawa without a carrier. The airfields on Formosa and Okinawa have to be shut down first. Here is the air plan.

This why losing some engineers and LCT's and minesweepers and some Elko boats and some DD's and whatever else we lost taking and building up Horycrappo-jima was worth it.

We can cover our landing with land based air. We might even by able to force a battle with Kirishima before the landing by sending our BB's to bombard Naha.

SG IV just turned nine. We are about halfway through her annoyingly self-entitled "birthday month". She and SG III fight like Sunni and Shia. They were going to Knotts for a birthday party so, in order to avoid a homicide of either one by SG, which might result in ME having to take care of them, I sat them down for a clear set of guidelines and roll-play.

The rules were quite concrete and the penalty was made quite clear. Now, to see if it sunk in.

Me: Suppose you ask in a whiney voice if you can have a $5 smoothie instead of a coke?

Larvae: The party is over, we leave the park right away and we stay in our rooms for the weekend.

Me: Very good! Now suppose you fight over where to sit on the ride?

Larvae: The party is over, we leave the park right away and we stay in our rooms for the weekend.

Me: Excellent! Now suppose one of you calls the other one a "jerk"?

Larvae: The party is over, we leave the park right away and we stay in our rooms for the weekend.

Me: Great!

<I decide to try to throw them off their game>

Right, suppose one of you calls Obama a "jerk", what will happen then?

Larvae: NOTHING! Because you say it all the time!

Me: EXCELLENT! Now you guys have fun, ya' hear?

***************June 2, 1943(c)*************

Okinawa et environs: The WJD carriers and crusier are gone. JJ lost some 30 Vals yesterday. Somehow Naha now have 35K troops today. Probably just FOW. USS Cabrilla has some fun 7 hexes East of Horrycrappo-jim.

Sub attack near Tokunoshima at 98,66

Japanese Ships
xAK Sansho Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AV Kiyokawa Maru
AV Kamikawa Maru
AV Kamoi
xAK Nitiryu Maru
xAK Asama Maru #2
xAK Kenzan Maru
xAK Meisan Maru
xAKL Bunzan Maru
xAKL Hiyori Maru
PB Nishho Maru
PB Magan Maru

Allied Ships
SS Cabrilla

Japanese ground losses:
10 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Then a second attack. Don't see that very often. The second ship apparently has no troops aboard.

Sub attack near Tokunoshima at 98,66

xAK Meisan Maru
xAKL Bunzan Maru
xAKL Hiyori Maru
PB Magan Maru

Allied Ships

Then the sun comes up and the TBF's reach out from Horrycrappo-jima. They are dropping bombs because the base is only level two. Pretty good shooting.

Morning Air attack on TF, near Tokunoshima at 98,66

Estimated time to target is 8 minutes

xAK Koki Maru
xAKL Gozan Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
xAK Heiei Maru

Helldivers from Karenko sink some patrol craft on station at Kume-jima near Okinawa. We mean to take Kume-jima but more likely by air drop from Horycrappo-jima as opposed to a seaborne landing.

Morning Air attack on TF, near Kume-jima at 94,65

Weather in hex: Light rain

Raid spotted at 14 NM, estimated altitude 16,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 6 minutes

Japanese Ships
SC CHa-4, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk
SC CHa-28, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk
SC CHa-16, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk

If JJ wants to refinforce to Naha they will have to do better than that. We have a CA and CL group at Horycrappo-jima to raid any transports that get close and then run back to cover before the sun comes up.

Question. Does the enemy get a message in the combat replay when one of our airfields goes up a notch?

Shemya in the Aleutians just went to level 1. They might be able to deduce our motives from this kind of thing.

Op report will tell them, it is not required reading however..
on second thought, neither is watching the replay. I'm not sure how diligent JJ is.

The olive branch is a universal (mostly) symbol of peace...but not in my neighborhood.

The house next door with the $10K mailbox sold. That is a good thing for real estate value but I now miss my crazy neighbor who thought the LA Times was a right wing publication. The new people moved in and the first day they move in they cut off a big olive branch to make it easier for the movers and then set it down in my front yard.

Saul, the Mexican gardener with the Jewish name who once had carnal knowledge of PG but I don't think is getting it any more, chopped up the olive branch with his machete...thus defusing the situation.

Through great force of will and forebearance I stopped myself from doing something foolish. Who wants a neighbor war the first day they move in? There is time enough for that.

Take down your $10,000 mail box as a gesture of good will. Then mention that you noticed your new neighbor doesn't have one, and ask if he would like it to put on his property.

Don't the Larvae have any acquaintances who might be inclined to commit some juvenile pranks to curry their favor? It might give you the opportunity to recoup any goodwill lost over the rules for Knotts by using them in asymmetric operations against the new neighbor.

Unleashing the larvae would be the nuclear option. A bit premature for that.

What if the new owner is a collector of vintage wines and likes to share them? Or he invites the neighbors over for a barbecue on the new 50,000 BTU 18-burner grill/rotisserie/smoker?

I'm working on the assumption they aren't being annoying on purpose yet.

Was the aforementioned olive tree fruit bearing? If so, he may have done you a favor by removing some of it. I had a neighbor with a fruit bearing olive tree that was a magnet for birds. Those well fed birds would then conduct ground bombardment training on any vehicles not parked in a garage. So maybe your decision to refrain from retaliating was a wise decision.

This doesn't seem right from a fog of war standpoint. How are the Japs supposed to figure out a frozen rock in the Aleutians has an airstrip unless they go look?

USA will remain neutral, eh? Apparent disconnect between Washington and the lads on the front lines, it would appear. The CIC does know there's a shootin' war on, doesn't he?

Being told you were going to be a Grandpapa is not so bad. Compare it to being told you are going to be a Grandpapa?

**********Operational Pranning Formosa and Okinawa*********

JJ has us stopped for a bit at Karenko. There are two CW divisions prepping for Taihoku but they need R&R after the fight in Luzon. They will land at Karenko, dispatch the two WJD regiments there and then march on Taihoku. They probably won't be ready for a fight for 10-14 days.

Okinawa: Now that we have recon every day over Okinawa for 3 d a clearer picture is emerging. There are 48K WJD at Naha in 16 units with 378 guns and 175 Ronsons. Quite and able force. Nago has 10K with 45 Ronsons and a fortress with CD guns. Even Kume-jima (NW of Naha) has WJD's. There really was no hope of surprise. The Japan-mens rive in Japan and the can rook at map just rike us.

Before Wasp was hit, there was a chance we could risk a snap landing with cover from Wasp and Yorktown but now it has to more deliberate. Batan Is is a level 5 field, Miyanko-jima will be level 3 and Aparri will be level 7 soon. Operations to wear down the arifields on Okinawa have started.

Landing Forces over 50% prep:

US 32nd ID
US 37th ID (still drawing infantry replacements)
Aus 8th Div
1st, 3rd, 22nd USMC Regt
(5th and 7th also available if taken out of line at Manila)
161st RCT
SWPAC HQ

That is 4-5 division-equivalents. Probably enough, although they won't crumble right away.

147th RCT is prepped for Kume-jima and 2 Bn of Marine paras are readying on Miyako-jima.

So I am in a hurry to get ready to get to work today and can't find Ecco's (old man shoes) so I just throw on my Topsiders (sort of like boat shoes) and then I get to work and I realize I am 100% dressed up like The Professor from Gilligan's Island. Khaki slacks, Topsiders, dress shirt sleeves rolled up.

Did you address SG as "Lovey" and ask her (in a nasal tone) to freshen your drink? For added emphasis, you could rattle the cubes in the glass to illustrate your request further.
