In a recent PBEM game I played, 3 squadrons of aircrafts on one carrier and 1 squadron on another just simply "disappeared"! Yes, they were on the deck when they left port last turn but now they are gone. That's a total of near 70 aircrafts, including a full squadron of 36 F-4F's, 2 squadrons of 12 SBD's, and 1 squadron of 8 SBD's.
The situation is like this: I had a few squadrons left from some sunk carriers, with some sub-group number like 1/VF-42, 1/VB-6, and the like, but the main group like VF-42 & VB-6 had been destroyed with the sunk carriers. In last turn, I got two carriers arrived in port, so I moved some of the squadrons left by the sunk carriers to the new carriers, and moved some TBD and inexperienced SBD squadrons off the carriers to make room for the more experienced sub-group squadrons I mentioned above. I maintained the total number of aircraft under 90 in each of the carriers. However, when my opponent sent back the save file to me, 4 squadrons of the above mentioned sub-group squadrons just disappeared. They are not flying back to base (no main group in theater). They are not going back to pool (numbers in aircraft pool do not increase). Also the groups are not listed in the reinforcement list. They simply disappear. It costs my opponent and me to restart our game. Can someone please tell me what happened?

This is the save file "before" the weird situation occurred. The 4 missing squadrons are still there. After the file was processed by my opponent and sent back to me, those 4 squadrons on the carrier group disappeared.

Hmm, did you have too many squadrons on the CV? The game apparently checks not just for total number of aircraft, but total number of air units as well. See rule 10.16 ("carriers may never carry more than 5 air units at one time").

Hi Grotius,
I had only 4 squadrons on each carrier before the weird situation occurred.

Send that save file to Matrix. Disappearing squadrons are very annoying!
