What are your current favorite space/scifi games?

I was looking forward to X: Rebirth, but decided to hold off after it's launch debacle. I'm looking for something to fill that void, but honestly I'm just wondering if there are any really good niche space games I've missed. I was actually really close to missing DW, and it took a lot of research and finding the right site (SpaceSector) before I could see just how great it was.

Honorable mentions, I'm sure some of you have played these already:

RPG/Adventure:
Mass Effect series
Knights of the Old Republic
Fallout series
STALKER
Deus Ex
Shadowrun Returns (very fun, if a little short)
Resonance
Primordia
Gemini Rue

Tactical:
XCOM reboot

4X/RTS:
Sins of a Solar Empire (great fun playing with friends but got stale for me rather quick)
Endless Space (looked awesome at first, but end-game turned out to be very monotonous)
StarDrive (also looked great, but apparently it's being left in an unfinished state by the dev)
GalCiv II (of course!)
Homeworld
Nexus: The Jupiter Incident (really loved this one, wish they expanded the franchise)
Anno 2070
Space Pirates and Zombies
Supreme Commander

Sim:
Kerbal Space Program
X3 Terran Conflict/Albion Prelude (tried getting into this as a replacement for Rebirth, but found it quite slow-going and focused too much on simply obtaining money; it's supposed to have great depth in the later stages, but I'm unsure if I'm willing to grind hours and hours of money grinding to get there)

Roguelike:
FTL

FPS:
Halo series
Planetside 2 (still play this regularly with a friend of mine, very fun)
Dead Space series (first game was good and I liked the setting, but I'm not a big fan of horror, and subsequent games lost my interest)
Natural Selection 2 (played a ton of the original mod, haven't really gotten into the new one)
Half-Life series
Portal series
edit: BioShock series

MMO:
EVE Online (played a few years ago, but felt a bit too grindy and twitchy, in that I couldn't necessarily play at my own pace unless I was trading/mining)
Star Trek Online (played briefly on release, didn't hook me)

You pretty much mentioned all the good ones. The only three I would add would be the RTS games Dawn of War 1 and 2 and Star Wars: Empire at War. I love anything Warhammer 40k, and Empire at War had a galactic conquest mode that, in my opinion, had a 4x feel to it.

A list of space / Sci-Fi and no Sword of the Stars or Alpha Centauri? Freelancer deserves an honorable mention as well.

you can add star ruler as a 4x space sector review.
star ruler 2 is also on the way...

I don't play as many as I used to (guess I'm getting old), but I do love both the Fallout and Mass Effect series.

Currently I am playing:

Gal Civ II with mods.
Xcom (Firaxis)
EQ2 when I really feel like grouping in an MMO.
Civ V

And I shelved DW till the patch comes out but will likely move Distant Worlds to the top once we get it patch up.
