To some extent we already are which is why China is further developing bases oversees and a blue water navy.

My honest view is that China is a modern power and deserves a lot more respect Not everything is a bad copy of something else and some of their war fighting theories are not far fetched. Much of what they are doing is similar to the Soviet strike complex model and if you really look at US and allies strategy (in this article) you see them doing the same as well.

China is in a similar position to that of imperial Germany in world war one. It has few overseas bases and the ones that they have are vulnerable. Germany was blockaded in the first war from a distance, the royal navy was afraid of submarines and mines. As many Germans died of starvation in the first war as people getting killed in strategic bombing in the second war. China can grow enough food, all the former farmers who work in the factories making export products can go back to Hunan and Sichuan after there factories close do to a blockade. However, China can not grow oil. The middle class Chinese needs oil to run their cars. Socialism in China can only survive if they have a "harmonious society". Who is China's traditional enemy? China has always been it worst enemy. There is a saying in China a family is only rich for 3 generations.
IN the case of a war with China who will Russia support? The Russian population in the pacific region is very small compared to China. Active support for China would certainly bring a response from NATO. A Chinese victory in a war would become a nightmare for Russia.
