Status: offline 		Thing about SC is that after 11+ years of development, it's pretty close to being conceptually fulfilled. Where do we go from here but to more complicated game play which is kind of in conflict to the very nature of the game. While I've always been a proponent of KISS, I believe that now there are enough SC releases to cover just about every ones idea of what a simple strategic game should represent.

Deductive reasoning leads me to only one conclusion, perhaps it is time to enter a little more complexity to further the realism of the WW2 experience. I know many will not agree, but for those, there are the past versions and don't get me wrong, the user friendly interface, the ease of the mechanics is not what the additional complexity should undermine, the experience should only be a compliment.

Status: offline 		I, for one, never got into the last version because of the squares so any change in that regard is a major plus. I cannot comment on the game itself even though I bought it. I never really played it I was so turned off.

Then came Time of Fury and almost everything about that game was perfect from scale to the importance of air and naval element except it never quite worked and they gave up on it too soon. If SC3 comes even close and works I will be one happy camper. For once you had a strategic air element that actually meant something and a naval game that could have fulfilled Churchill's nightmare.

I suggest they take a look at Time of Fury for the scale and other ideas. Hell purchase the damn thing and get a good programmer to fix it and rename it. I can't emphasis how close it was to being THE ONE game to rule them all.

Loved everything about ToF except the naval/air interaction was totally FURBAR. I agree if they get get that fixed ToF would be an awesome game.

Status: offline 		ToF was pretty detailed but didn't appeal to me because no opponent would finish something that complex. That's why a short edition was made. Now if you could have streamlined ToF and cleared some of the micromanagement it would have been great for Multiplayer PBEM. It is really meant to be played against the AI as it stands. As wonderful a game as it is that makes me sad. One things that kept Strategic Command 1 a beauty was it's simplicity, SC2 was fairly close. I think you need to find a streamline vehicle here, with both the proper bells and whistles and the proper aerodynamics to make the perfect finely tuned machine for both PBEM(which is something that keeps people coming for years afterwards, AI never holds up) and something that doesn't lack detail where you're yawning after a dozen games. Do not overlook Commander Great War and they are going to do a WW2 ETO version with that system. So simple, so lovely and so playable. It is addictive!

Sure you throw away the detail, but just my 2 cents. I would rather have a great opponent who sticks it out.

Status: offline 		Land battles are great but you cannot simulate the choices that had to be made if you ignore the air and sea like most games do. That's what was so intriguing about ToF to me. A few tweaks here and a few there and you had a classic. I never had a problem with the length of turns but then again I bought World of Flames and enjoy War in the Pacific as well.

Status: offline 		ToF had shortages for Naval War realism, we were working on that but I think the interest has fallen a lot now and the game will be scraped. You are also right about the realism with all aspects of that game. It was a great attempt to bring the ETO to life and I don't think I have seen a title yet that will duplicate it to the precise feel of weather/air power/naval power and every other aspect...even terrain. For half the game you are sweating out the mud and Winter waiting for a chance to maneuver again. I got the personal feeling that it was so massive and so deep that the developer was upset we didn't buy more copies and that's life in the Strategy Gaming Industry : (

A lot could be learned from their wonderful historical events, the endless manpower that all sides had was a little off...even for the scale in my last game I went over the actual casualty limit built in for the game counter : ) I mean you have to love to be able to see every single tank you blow up in real time. After about 2 years of game play into the game you can get bogged down in some superfluous details and that was the beauty of Strategic Command. It was very abstract while something like ToF lingered between divisional detail, accounting nearly every aircraft and ship.

These are very different animals and unless I'm mistaken we will see two very different animals. Though SC2 was VERY deep in comparison with SC1 and now hexes are coming back and this has been moved to Matrix it will probably have a lot of detail....we use to play IP real time....it was quite beautiful! That way you make mistakes like historical commanders and your opponent with some Fog of War can watch how everything unfolds right there : ) mind you an SC2 game could linger on for 4-6 hours straight with two fast players!

There has never been a duplicate to Strategic Command for it's more streamlined appeal. It took me back to Third Reich and High Command days...but with Humans : ) and land warfare wasn't where it was limited to. It had a lot of air power and naval power involved. Just how that will be addressed will be interesting in a new title. ToF is definitely the most detailed grand strategy ETO in existence I have seen at least...and there are mountains of gaming fun to be learned from it and brought into any title going for a dive into those same waters... I have one game lingering on 6 months now :P

Status: offline 		How did you guys ever manage to finish a ToF game? I would always get to a point where the game would always crash, didn't matter how many turns back I went with my saves, it would get back to said point and POOF no more gaming. Don't know that I ever finished a game of ToF and it was quite frustrating - I tried again just in the past month and same thing, 2 different attempts. (I posted in ToF forum here about the first error - If you know how to fix this, PLEASE educate me!!!!)

I agree it was THIS close to being 'it', but I have to reserve final judgement as I can't finish a game! (Grrrrrrr...)

That's why I am here looking into SC3 to be honest. I was trying to reinstall SC2 Gold, but the damned DRM won't let me install it on my new PC. Having same issue with SC AoC etc, and some googling led me here to see if there was any update on SC3. (SO glad to hear Matrix is in the loop on this!) Have to remain patient I guess, and hope for an update soon.

Status: offline 		I never did get to finish a game but I got far enough to see the possibilities for really exploring the great "what ifs" of history. You are right ... it was soooo freeking close. I still think someone can save it. Some modding group like what's been done with IL2 1946 or Darth Mods in Total War. It really hits on all cylinders except too many bugs. Bugs that I believe can be squashed.

Status: offline 		Well it is coming up on the two year anniversary of Democracy June 2013? Could we get a reply from anyone doing development on the game as to the status?

I know SC3 is going to be a European theater game. Is there a global version in the works?

Are there going to be major changes in the naval game? Air game?

It would be nice to hear that there is progress being made.

Just to confirm I will be at HoW in June, and while I'm not 100% sure just yet what will be revealed/discussed, we are preparing for it and looking forward to it

The project has taken some time (no argument from us there) and more so than even we would have liked it to take, and the only consolation I can give is that when we do discuss it in more detail, hopefully soon enough, you'll be guaranteed that what we discuss will be in the game and fully representative of the final product.

This has been a very large project, very transformative in terms of the game engine and future capabilities, that with such a long original list of planned changes, and final actual list of changes, it would have been very easy for us to have gotten ahead of ourselves and to have made a lot of empty promises. Something that every game designer, if they've made that mistake (which we've done in the past) can quickly come to regret.

While we've been very quiet, the truth is we've instead channeled all our time and efforts into this game (as the trade-off) and hopefully this will show in the end.
