G'day all!

currently looking at putting together an ADF 2017 OOB. I am up to the C-27J Spartan, which the RAAF will be acquiring in 2015, and should be IOC by 2016.

http://www.airforce.gov.au/Alenia_C-27J_Spartan_Battlefield_Airlifter/?RAAF-X+uk8a9VAAM3WxS8ueGxVwnuL3bxuN6b

now, I am wondering if this is the sort of thing that should be added to the DB, being a planned acquisition, or if it should be added in the scenario as one of the other nationality already existing C-27Js?

no worries, but just to clarify - I wanted to know whether for cases like this, we should ask for an aircraft to be added as a new DB entry of the correct nationality, or we should simply use the existing entry of a different nationality?

from your answer, I would assume the former?

Well we generally add specific entries to catch the one off kind of mods that specific models have but if it adds nothing to the scenario (ex. AU C-17 vs. USAF C-17) go ahead and add and existing entry.

All DB request will eventually get fulfilled but we may have to wait or dig for info to add them. What we don't want is have delete entries in the future because a capability isn't there or an order never happened etc. Its a pain to fix because somebody might use it in a scenario which doubles the work.

Mike

rgr that. It was also the fact that it was a planned acquisition vs something paid for and delivered... of course the kaman helicopters fit that description and they never got used either (RAN).

okay, similar question... I note that the Anzac class ships in the DB have only a single example of the class.

is the intent to list every ship, or one of every ship?

I reckon that adding every single ship to the DB would be a mammoth task, but the fact that the existing ones seem to be numbered and named made it seem like the intent was not to include only individual members of each class.

Its generally by class and another entry is added if there is a major change. These are marked by date changes.
We usually include the name of the first ship in the class and may include any other name the ship had or class had for search purposes. Some times there are even comments noting other things

roger that. I noted this as the adelaide class ships are listed with 2 examples - one listing the adelaide, FFG 01, as a perry class, and one listing the melbourne iirc, as an adelaide/perry class.

does it matter which entry I use?

Match the date with that of your scenario. Go low if not an exact match. In this case there are differences between units in the class so pick the hull number thats close. Wikipedia can help with that.
