I am a lover of the hoppy taste and smell of IPA and have been for many years since all the great Micro Brewery and craft beers came on the scene.

I have recently discovered an Extra IPA called Torpedo put out by Sierra Nevada in addition to their regular IPA. I would recommend it for those that have similar tastes. It's not for light weights like myself (max two normally only one at a setting} but it is full flavored and its higher than normal alcohol content doesn't distort the taste.

Not trying to sell the stuff nor promoting drinking, just want to pass on the info for all you responsible drinkers.

BTW after I finish the case I already have in the fridge, I'm going back to the tamer regular IPA. When did I turn in to such a Woose.

I'm not a beer drinker so I'll take you word for it. I do find some of the names of microbrews entertaining. A few years ago we were having a party at our house and I had to run an errand. Someone shoved some money into my hand and told me to get some beer on the way back. I came back with Kilt Lifter and Moose Drool. By all reports they were both pretty good, though I didn't have any.

I do like a very good wine, though I've never been much of a drinker.

The area I live in has been trying to attract micro breweries. The plan is to turn the area into a destination for those who want to do brew pub tourism. A couple of brew pubs have already set up shop here. Washington State requires that anyplace serving alcohol also needs to be able to serve hot meals too, so these places are all restaurant/brew pubs. A couple of them have some very good food. One place has the best pizza in town, though I had to wait over an hour the last time I was there.

BTW, I notice you're in Covina. I grew up in that neck of the woods in Monterey Park. Do you ever get out to Chino? They have two of the best air museums in the world there. Last time I was there I shot over 400 pictures. Going to Chino when I was a kid beat Disneyland hands down.

Been to the Air museum in Palm Springs and it was very cool. I now live in Upland, just a few miles from Chino. I think I owe it to myself to visit the museum there. Thanks for reminding to look in my own backyard.

Planes of Fame was one of the first air museums established in the 1950s. They have some very rare stuff like the world's only Raiden. They also had one of the few if not the only Me-262 in private hands. I think they traded that away though. They were in the process of restoring their B-17 last time I was there. I think the intent was to get it flying again.

The Yanks museum started in the 1980s. It was a couple of hangers and very informal when I was last there as a kid. I went back a few years ago and their collection now is as big as Planes of Fame. The guy who owns Yanks looks for rare aircraft types. I think he's been outdone in recent years by Paul Allen, but for a while he was a leader in rare warbird restoration. He had one of the first P-51As restored to flying condition for example.

Chino is one of the few things I miss about Southern California. It never felt right for the weather to be 80 F at Christmas among other things.

I had a couple of Moose Drool's in a little bar outside of Yellowstone a couple of years ago. Not a bad little beer, inspite of the name.

Yeah, had mine (Moose Drool) at the airport in Bosman while waiting for our ride to Yellowstone.

I've got a couple in my neck of the woods too. One is the Cradle of Aviation museum which used to be tucked away in a couple of the old hangers at what was Mitchel Field. They got a patron and built a beautiful new building but I still haven't been back. The other is a small one(I forget the name) stuffed in the back of Republic Airport. What I remember most about it was all the WWII front pages that wallpapered the walls.

I hear you Bill about So Cal. I have lived in No. & Central Oregon several times and each time I returned I vowed to stay, but, always came back to So. Cal to be close to family. I hate it here but what's a fella to do. Couldn't handle the winters up there again and to damn tired to be a "Snowbird". Still have 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren in the Yakima area.

Enjoy the beautiful life up there.

Since we're talking about air museums, I just saw this article about the Evergreen Air Museum in McMinnville, OR. Sounds like it might be something to see ASAP or it might be gone!

All my family left So Cal around the time I did. After I graduated high school and moved to Bakersfield with my sister while getting ready for college my parents suddenly decided to move to Morro Bay. It's the only quick decision they ever made. I ended up living with them through college (Cal Poly SLO), which was great financially, but sucked in every other way.

I still have some cousins in the San Fernando Valley, but I haven't seen any of them since the 80s.

I've been there a couple of times. I embarrassed a couple of docents because I knew more than they did and had a hard time keeping my mouth shut.

It's a very nice museum. Evergreen Aviation got most of their money in their early years flying Air America in SE Asia. They have a reputation among long term Portlandites as a bunch of spooks.

I've heard that about 20% of the museum's collection is directly owned by Evergreen Aviation and that would have to be sold in a bankruptcy. I suspect most of the 20% are old Evergreen aircraft that are part of the museum collection. They have the oldest surviving DC-3 and some other old transport aircraft.

The size of the Spruce Goose is hard to really fathom. It dominates the building, but after a while you don't notice it. It's sort of like the ceiling. There is an SR-71 parked under one wing along with a bunch of other aircraft. A B-17 is almost parked under one side of the tail. One horizontal stabilizer is larger than the B-17.

The museum is also right in the middle of Oregon's wine country, which brings this thread sort of back to the original area where it started.

My SO is very partial to Oregon pinot noir. She likes red wine, but also likes light flavored wines and OR pinots are the lightest tasting reds around. There are some decent white wines too.

Domaine Drouhin, Willamette Valley, is one of my all time favorite pinots. I would stack it up against an excellent Cote de Nuits. Doesn't hurt that it's one fourth the price, either

Obviously some of you guys are heathen!

1st of all, were are talking IPA , not beer. Beer is what Germans and other people of the continent drink. This is India Pale ALE. The UK's greatest gift to the world!

Yes I drink wine, beer, spirits and most things that come out of a glass. But to class a fine IPA as mere "beer" is like calling 20 year single malt the same as a vodka that took ten minutes to make and as long to age.

IPA is made different from other ales (and all other beers) because of a crazy notion that some English beer barons had that is you could stuff enough hops into an ale it would easily make the transport from England to India. That didn't work as well as hoped , but did produce an incredible libation. Hop=flowers. IPA has a very flowery taste. (In fact my wife, who will drink beer only at gunpoint , loves IPA and refers to it as "Drinking flowers"...not inaccurately).

Please excuse my climbing on my soapbox, but you've touched on what for me , is a religious experience.

And Torpedo is very good. I heard the creator tell about it before it was introduced at a Smithsonian event where he passed out "pre-release advance samples".

As Ben Franklin is reputed to have said, "Beer (ale) is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy".
