The whole American fleet being in the China sea, the Japanese fleet sorties in the Japanese sea.
It has no wishes to meet a fleet that is superior in all aspects, and it can still serve well both with carrier planes and defensive shore bombardment.

It meets the few american ships there.

Note: I could make the naval combat by playing it as an interception attempt. Initiating combat still throws an exception. Interestingly, a bug has now disappeared: before, the game would crash a bit later after the interception combat is finished, but the game now seems to proceed.

Staying alive until the end of the game for Germany will be difficult.
Even staying alive this turn is not ensured!

Now, Germany renounces keeping frontlines. It pulls its armies into cities, preferably these with factories.
In the south, the immediately available garrison (a 4-3 infantry and a 5-4 mountains) are obviously not enough to keep Munich. A desperate attept is done to provide an escape corridor to the elite units trapped in the Russian pocket. Its unlikely to succeed, but Munich is in no immediate danger, unless the allies attempt a lone paradrop assault, very likely to fail.

As we can see, Berlin is "well" defended, with the only working aircrafts (which are not crummy), good troops, and 5 fortified hex-sides. It is not yet captured. British and Russians will have to decide on how to do this!

In Germany, whatever planes can fly do...
And even crapy aircraft can work wonders!

Using their now barely contested air superiority, the allies do widespread ground strikes.

In Japan, the USA are more picky ; widespread bombing is not the mood.

The British complet their half-surrounding of Berlin, and join with the northern forces, isolating Hamburg and Kiel (missing screen capture...) ; and the Russian do their half of the work.

And even in Shanghai, for a steep cost (a lost mechanized vs a marine division...)
But that's an objective hex!

Germany at the start of the second axis impulse in May 45.

Note that the allied made a blunder! They should have paradropped on Munich, which would have eaisly succeeded with the help of the adjacent US armies. But the Commonwealth used all its air actions for ground strikes... So Munich will see a real combat!

Tokyo is now under siege ; if it can resist, it will be thanks to the fleet! We'll see...

Japan at the start of the third allied impulse.

For that important impulse, the USA have taken a land action with an offensive chit on Eisenhower: this will target Tokyo.

The Britsh have chosen a combined action with an offensive chit: they have supply problem in the Baltic where Cremar moved in the previous. As long as this is not solved, there won't be serious attacks on Kiel and Hamburg.

At this stage, Berlin is not really a target: with the fortifications and air defense, it is still formidable. This doesn't say the British won't try to weaken it. The problem is: who will capture Berlin ?

The Russians take a land action, with no offensive.

In Berlin, the Commonwealth tries a carpet bombing raid. It is intercpeted by some of the few remaining German fighters. The allies use overwhelming force to pass through.

But the raid fails.

One unit would have been destroyed had the German not intercepted.

The British ground strike Berlin.
They don't have any top bomber available, but the germans have no choice but ti scramble one of their two fighters in an attempt to intercept.

Even though the British did pass the air defenses, the ground strike is not exceedingly successfull. Still, one bomber less will always be helpful.

In Tokyo, the Americans also do a ground strike ; the best Japanese fighter also fails to stop the raid.
