Status: offline 		My hats off to anyone who has the brain power to grasp the ground war and the logistical aspects of the land and sea part of this game. (And I sincerely mean that!) When I click on a base for example I see a list of all those ground forces but for the life of me I can't understand what goes with what other unit. I see HQ's, engineers etc but I can't tell one from the other for some reason. I can't imagine keeping track of the unit hierarchy let alone the production of individual airframe engines etc. Is there a concise manual somewhere that would help an apparent idiot like me understand all of this?

Status: offline 		That is a broad and all encompassing question that crosses many lines and categories. At the risk of being simplistic, I would start with the game manual itself. It is 300+ pages but the pages are smallish and a quick read. Once you get past the pictures that explain what everything is on, for example, a detail page for a particular LCU or air unit, you will start to see how things work together.

This is a game that has a very steep learning curve. Near vertical if you have little other wargaming experience. I am sure you can get better pointers than I offer here, but to do so, take screen shots of what you have questions about and ask specific questions. That will help the experts around here give better answers.

You sound like me when I started the game for the first time, It was like ooooh....uhm....uff..... xAK,AR,APD,CM,CMc huh ?
Read the manual, it is outdated but that does not matter.
I also suggest to read some AARs. Mike Solis are for example very good for Japan starters since he writes everything down.
This game is a commitment but when it starts to roll it is very satisfying.

I don't know if someone already made a tutorial to explain basics and advanced mechanisms in AE. I could but I want to be sure they aren't already one

I bought Uncommon Valor back when it first came out in 2002 and proceeded to buy WiTP and AE when they came out. I've been playing pretty much continuously, and I'm still totally lost and don't understand what I do! But gosh, I sure love this game. You will too.

Like others have said, post screenshots to help the forum dwellers answer your questions. There are many knowledgeable and helpful individuals here to lend a hand.

Status: offline 		OK, I'm not trying to scare anyone off, but being honest this game takes a big commitment to learn how to play. I've been playing these games forever so I feel I have a leg up, and I've been at this one for a bit. I'm nowhere near ready to waste someones' time in a PBEM. Now, that being said realize you do it at your own pace. You will not (myself included) learn everything all at once (probably never). Read the manual, read the threads here. Read the after action reports. Read the war room posts. READ, READ, READ. Oh, I almost forgot... play. Get your butt kicked, and then you'll really learn. Don't forget to post questions here. I have only posted a few, but that's only because the other ones I had were already answered. The guys and gal on this site are great and tremendously helpful. Also check out that wiki site I listed above. Not my find the people here showed me.

Status: offline 		No one has the brain power to grasp all the aspects of this game (well, maybe Alfred), but that is it's beauty. You can't outgrow this game, much like chess. So to enjoy it, just dive in and begin to learn the basics then go from there. It's worth the plunge.

Status: offline 		As you get the game under your belt, you will start to learn to triage the data presented to you. For example, if you are looking at a base and want to see if you have engineers to expand, you will scroll through the units at the base looking for engineer devices in a unit. There are also places that tell you how many engineers are at the base too.

Looking at the units on the bottom of the screen you can go by the NATO unit type symbols as a visual triage of what's there. If all a base has is infantry units, you know there is no air support.

I liken it to learning any kind of skill. When I was first learning how to drive, I was putting a lot of brain power into the basics like which pedal to push when and how much to turn the steering wheel. I didn't have much attention left to look out for why the guy ahead of me was weaving all over the road. At this point all the basics are second nature and my attention is mostly on which other drivers may do something nutty.

It's probably better to start off with the Allied side. The Allies have very minimal control over production (only able to turn some aircraft factories on and off). That takes a dimension of the game off the table when you're learning.

This game is the king of all computer wargames and repay you many, many times over for any investment you put into learning it. Don't lose sight of the fact that the goal is not to learn everything about this game immediately, but to enjoy every step of the journey!

You are also right that this forum is very rare on the internet for the content, dedication, camaraderie, and all around good nature of it's posts and members. This has been my "internet home" for many years, now.

I used to not understand either, but then I downloaded the Tracker and databased the chaos.
