After playing Danjo Wall (and other sub-intensive scenarios), I need some help with the basics of sub-hunting.

In the scenario I've got a sub, two surface ships (one with a Sea King), and a single land-based Orion. None of the ships and boat are within the 24,000 square mile search area, and one is more than 50 miles away. The search area also encompasses a large island as well as shore areas.

Frankly, I don't even know how to begin. Do I use the Orion to build walls of sonobuoys in an attempt cordon off certain areas (even though I've only got 100 on board and another 100 back at base)? Do I rush my ships and boat into the search area, then start them slowly trawling? How much ocean can a destroyer cover in 24 hours? What is the best way to use the Sea King, with her dipping active sonar (which would take about 3000 "dips" to cover the whole area)?

Many thanks in advance!

Hint...

If the Chinese are going to go after Japanese merchants...find the merchants and keep an eye on the waters nearby. That's where the Chinese subs are likely to show up.

Must admit this is an impressive scenario, cleverly put together and shows what Command is capable of.
Managed a minor victory only, Chinese subs launched attacks and managed to localise and sink two. Never could track down or even get a clue of the whereabouts of the last. Unlike Baloogan we even avoided torpedoing any biologics which should be worth a bonus of some sort.

Very tense game indeed. A good exercise in many ways on ASW.

To me all i needed was a little patience, i've made the area box my mission in which i created an ASW patrol from both air and naval units. The orion shall spread the sonobuoys, the Sea King will deploy making jumps it's dipping sonar. I've lost 3 merchants to C-801 and torpedos, both guided and straight running. I've deployed my Hawkeye on both eastern reference points, and the Phantoms in a different AAW patrol, both recognizing and investigating targets, the chinese fighters come directly from their base.

Took a little time but was successful.
