Escorted by new Focke-Wulf 190's, the Italian bomber pilots were confident of success as they headed out over England. They didn't count on the RAF's elite, who swat the Piaggios down in droves, but at the cost of their lives, as the 190's swoop down and exact revenge.

The bombing campaign over England really isn't going very well at the moment, despite only a handful of defending fighters they are doing a lot of damage to the bombers. A new wing of He-177's are blown out of the sky.

In the Urals, Guderian attacks south-west of Perm. The river is causing him more than a few headaches here, and the odds aren't as good as they might have been.

Over Leningrad the force of Polikarpovs have been defending the city since 1940. They have done a sterling job too, aborting a number of attacks and destroying some Stukas. Eventually it had to come to and end.

The follow up assault on Leningrad however, achieves nothing whatsoever except embarrassment for Manstein.

Its really not going well for Axis four-engine aircraft; Gladiators splash the Condors over the Bey of Biscay.

In the Red Sea, the Italian Marines have arrived to sieze the key British port of Aden. Incredibly, for the first time in this game, they don't die in the process.

The turn ends.
It hasn't been a good one for Naval aviators, Spitfire pilots or the crews of large Axis aircraft.

The repair pool is also chock full of ships; the small but heavily-utilised German fleet has been going in and out of the repair pool like a yo-yo.

These are the reinforcements both sides can expect for the last turn of 1942.
The Germans will have to rename that French cruiser... hmmn what to call it?

I can't remember who got the initiative at the start of November 1942, but the first result is a Japanese sub sunk off Hawaii.

Another turn, another wing of Heinkel He-177's destroyed. The Luftwaffe just can't catch a trick at the moment.

The French cruiser Foch is renamed 'Markgraf' after the WW1 German battleship. Markgraf and her fellow Kriegsmarine squadron head into the Faeroes Gap to try to cut the convoy lines.

Another bombing raid over England, another target missed. And yet another defending fighter unit wiped out.
With Mosquitoes now available in the force pools, this was the last mission of the Whirlwinds.

It has been yet another turn filled with brief naval battles, but the losses are not so high as previous turns.

For the first turn of 1943 the Axis gain the initiative again. Once again they decide to send their fleets out, and this time they decide to cut the Allied convoy line going through the Bay of Biscay. They get surprise and the convoys are annihilated.

Newly repaired Tirpitz moves from Kiel to Brest where she is reorganized by von Bock, in preparation for later moves into the North Atlantic. But the RAF is having none of this, and with support from Implacable's Spitfires, the bombers get through - but at a high price;

The bombers partially succeed - Tirpitz goes straight back into the repair pool, having been back on the map for less than two impulses!
