20 December 1943

Burma
Ki-49 bomb enemy troops north of Basein this time heavy flak. Minimal effect to ground troops 5 bombers lost

DEI
Target is Saumlaki.
Enemy CVE in base hex with some transports and SAGs. Nothing unload today.
Enemy Carriers 80nm SW of Saumlaki

Docup sweep Saumlaki from Darwin with CAP from Carriers and LCAP from Burthurst Island. In my experience LCAP is building lot of fatigue especially at range 6. Also if LCAP and CAP from carriers is participating in sweep also is taking lot of fatigue to them so i hope CV group are little tired.

Unfortunely I sneaked into Docup's AAR a while ago, so I just can't say anything otherwise than you are doing great, both in play as in reporting as well.

Starting to do report but at first i want to say what was most important factors in battle

- KB despite being split in two TF and despite both TF reacted toward enemy menage to stay in single hex
- Allied CV TF spited in at lest two TF. Only one reacted toward KB
- Incredible good coordination of Japanese strike
- Incredible wok done by A6M5 both in attack and in defense(especially A6M5c version)
- long reaction of allied CAP(they still where deadly)
- LBA play any role during that battle

I know that Docup is having huge morale drop right now but i want to play that game so
please help him go trough this. In next few month he again will be able to fight and i have no hopes to survive next battle.

AM air phase

After inicial serch phase KB reacted towar enemy moving 1 hex south. Lucky both TF end move in the same hex
Allied carries where detected 2 hexes south of Saumlaki. It llok that one of TF reacted toward KB while ather stay with main fleet.
Those reaction, especially splitting allied fleet has huge impact on battle

AS for invasion
It looks that Docup manage to unload entire ID in Saumlaki. Base will fall soon. I have only IR there are supplies are at 0

I will need to find way to suppress Saumlaki. I will also need to send KB soon to Marshals

I decided to slowly retreat north with KB. I lost half of bombers, many is damaged and will not be available tomorrow. Morale very low. Time to rebuild and move to shadows.

I hope Docup will write something to me before o go sleep. I Should be happy but i am not.
I am worried about his morale and about this game. Relation with Docup is so deep in my live that i cant imagine day without turn from him.

I check what reinforcements allied get in next month. It look that it will take 5 months before he will be able to replace all those CV and CVL. Big spamming with carriers will start for Docup in Q4 1944

Fantastic defense koniu!

He has to be in the dumps right now, but he didn't exactly help himself with the vector and slow development of the attack. Do you have at least subs to pursue the damaged CVs? This could be the final straw, I hate to say it. It's not that he's incredibly behind the timeline, but the loss of ships is going to make it tough.

I think you'll still have a chance next time as well, and if you stuff another one it's over for sure.

Thanks but i still have mixed filing.
If Docup survive next 6 month this battle can be opening to epic game that will last until 46.
But it will be hard to him. After 2 Years he again lost and will need again wait another months to at lest be equal in numbers on deck Very hard time, very dangerous to game.

What i learn. Don`t start DEI offensive or any other offensive until You have numbers on Your side. But Biggest weakness of Docup plan was not numbers but rather place he chose and speed he travel there

Giving Japan week of warning is to much. Japan can be everywhere faster.
I think if Docup wait two more months and if he concentrate everything he have in single force he will win with me or at lest have tie. In march i will be facing not only number but also quality of ~450 Corsair and that is something A6M even with 80+ pilots cant handle. I saw that last turn those 33 Corsair destroy enemy every time they shot, while Hellcat is good but good A6M pilots have some decent chances with it.

I certainly agree with your assessment. When he was spotted so early he should have pulled back. When you don´t have CV supremacy you will have to do "hit and run" invasions. Or he should have waited a couple of months for more CVs to arrive and as you say he should have Corsairs on the CVs instead of Hellcats.

I hope he plays on as he still have a good chance. When you have not seen it yourself its hard to really understand how much the allies get in late 44 and onward. But I can see this might be such a blow on moral he might hoist the white flag. I hope he doesn´t though!

I hope he plays on as he still have a good chance. When you have not seen it yourself its hard to really understand how much the allies get in late 44 and onward. But I can see this might be such a blow on moral he might hoist the white flag. I hope he doesn´t though!

It can depend from next turns. If he manage to save some CV and CVL (i think 2 CV (Lex and Essex) and 2 CVL(Independence and Cowpens) have chances) he will continue. If not it will be 50/50 to end.

Cruisers will cover KB retreat. CV Junyo with escort of two DD and 4 Es will try to survive next 24h. With 5knt speed and 96 fires he is easy target to subs

4 CVs you mean 2CVs and 2CVLs or actually 4 CVs ?

Great game you got, you play the naval side of the game brillantly. Had you had a tiny bit more experience on the Burma part, you would be in an unpregnable situation.

Quote from email. Hard for me as non native speaker to be sure if he by cvs mean aslo cvls

"You sunk 4 cvs, with one on fire one damaged but save able"
"About the only thing u sunk was my cvs"

Even i sunk only 2, damaging rest mean they are out of action for long months.

It could very well be 4 CVs (Saratoga, West Virginia, Bunker Hill and Enterprise), which would mean fantastic rolls regarding Bunker Hill and Saratoga. If this is the case, you have scored a great victory !

Docup write ma that Bunker Hill survive, so probably Lexington go down.
Lex eat 5x500kg of bombs all penetrate, two make ammo and fuel explosion.
But Docup also stated that is not sure as he seen only turn replay once, and because he was going to work he spend only 5 minutes with turn and he don`t remember correctly because it was to big mess.

Tracker is showing 3 CV and 3 CVL sunk, Game is showing 5CV and 2CVL sunk

To much FoW.

There is no impregnable Japanese defense!

I also think koniu is doing just fine in Burma. The Japanese don't want to hold Burma forever anyway. You just need it long enough so that the Allies can't break through and kill the oil early.

Glad to hear it's going forward.

You see what I meant, obviously not geographically impregnable, but so good that he could quite safely milk the clock from it.

Actually i slowly preparing to retreat from at lest north Burma.
His south offensive just encircled Prome so soon i will abandon it to make another defense line in Jungle line.
Probably next 2-4 weeks are my last in Taung Gyi. I dont need troops there if Rangoon is in danger.
My plan is to buy time, fight where i need or have chance and slowly retreat. I thin i will hold Burma for 2-3 moths back. After dtah only Ranggon area shoul be in Japanese hands

I have nice email exchange today with Docup, we talk about what he or cant do in next months. Generally about tactic without CV superiority.

We talk about CVE force he can use. In February (60 days) his CV/CVL/CVE fleet will reach in numbers KB. In June allies will have 2200 carrier planes and in September almost 3000 so i have maybe 4-5 quiet month before allies will back to offensive

CVs are nice to have but not required. He still has enough CV/CVEs to do operations in places where you arn´t ready for it. Say, NOPAC, CENTPAC and even Northern Sumatra. As long as he can get close enough undetected that you won´t have time to shift the KB and LBA.

Still no turn from Docup.
He write me that he still have lot to do with it. Plus he working his 12h shifts two day in row.

As for future. This game have big chances to last until 1946
Because i don`t even dream that we will play until 1946, there is no chance that empire will have jets as i decide not research them at all at game beginning.
Probably i can shift some factories to them but there we will second problem. Engines never where planed for jets. I just have no free engine factories.
Firs calculation is showing that Jet program worth of building, so at lest 200 planes monthly, will cost me ~600-800k of supplies

Do you have Ki-94? That will be much more useful if you can get it. The stats are as good as most Allied fighters at that time and it's 'only' service 3 compared to 5 for the jets.
