Hi guys

the manuals are such a big part of the package that it doesn't make sense to have the game without them physically. The way it works is you'll be able to download the game as normal when you buy but there will not be an option to buy the download alone.

To give you an idea of pricing we are selling the PC Game, 3 Hardback books and the 21 x 9 foot map in a package for just €150 at Essen.

This is discounted on the final price but indicative of it. If you think about the cost of a new hard backed game book - usually ~$40 each plus the cost of a printed map at that size - At least $100 and probably up to $400, the value for money on the physical part of the game is unbelievable. The physical items alone could have been valued at $200-$400.

Then add in that you are getting the PC game too and I think you'll agree this is an amazing amount of value for money!

For thoses interested in... Sure. For me ? Absolute garbage. The map is useless (I already have WIF twice and the full Europa Set) the manuals are a total waste of perfectly usable Wood and ink, why 3 manual ? That no sane one will ever read or refer while you can quick search a .pdf (no one sane or not totally elitist or refractary to progress and computer).

World in Flames is a boardgame, Matrix World in Flames is a computer game, you NEED a computer to use it, why print manuals that are already obsolete and not compliant with the game as provided. By the way it is not Rules As Coded as much as "rules as they are intented to be Coded and perhaps will one day if we debug every feature and not drop the ball on options we promised to include in this book".

You can make a 1 on 1 replica of a Tiger tank out of foam, sell it for 100$ and it will perfect value for the money, except it will be useless, cost 10 times as much in cheaping, raise the price of the CD you pack with 10 times and end up in a garage as a prestige took en of foolishness. Just as this map and thoses books will. They are a stupid and not commercialy sound move from Matrix that will even more diminish the amount of games they could probably have sold. Except of course if they market was already "the bunch of guys that wanted 10 years for this and will pay any amount of money to buy it so we can add as much useless memorabilia to it to up the price".

You should try to remember that everyone buys or not buys for their own reasons. I bought the game first and foremost for the maps. I like maps. The game was, and always will be, secondary to me. That being said this is a very complicated game and I never played it before. So the printed manuals are very critical to my understanding and playability of the game. Are they 100% necessary, could I play without? Yes, of course I can. But to me, since I grew up reading books, I find sitting down and reading them to be a joy and not a chore. For me it's easier to thumb through a book than to look through a PDF.

This above all else: Different strokes for different folks!

PS: when I paid less than $200 (after shipping and taxes) for the maps, game, manuals I thought it was a bargain. I was quite prepared to pay $250. But that's just me.
PPS: Yes, I too am unhappy about all the bugs, C'est la vie!

+1

I also wanted the books even though I have two monitors, a laptop, AND an iPad Yes I AM a tech geek lol. Yet I STILL wanted (and was glad to pay for the books+shipping) the books. And I have actually used them pretty regularly too as I find I can look something up in the books a lot faster than with a pdf. But obviously others like the pdfs better so it is good we have mutiple ways to find information

Also one thing that everyone seems to be forgetting here is that Matrix does NOT own the rights to WiF. So there could EASILY be some contractual agreement with ADG that Matrix CANNOT discuss that set up this situation. So everyone is left with the following situation.

a) buy the game with the books at $99+shipping
b) buy the game without the books for $99
c) not buy the game and keep complaining about a and b
d) not buy the game and move on

Although option c can be entertaining
